Finding better rates for insurance coverage can seem to be a challenge for beginners to comparison shopping online. Drivers have so many choices that it can be more work than you anticipated to locate the lowest price.

How to Compare Auto Insurance Rates

There are several ways to get quotes and find the best price. The recommended way to find competitive 1990 Mazda B-Series Pickup insurance rates involves getting comparison quotes online. This can be done using a couple different methods.

  1. The most efficient way to get quotes for comparison is to use a rate comparison form (click to open form in new window). This form eliminates the need for a different quote for each company you want a rate for. Completing one form gets you price quotes from multiple companies. Just one form and you’re done.
  2. A slightly less efficient method to find lower rates consists of visiting each individual company website to complete their respective quote request forms. For examples sake, let’s say you want rates from GEICO, Progressive and GMAC. You would have to take the time to go to each site and enter your policy data, which is why most consumers use the first method. For a list of links to insurance companies in your area, click here.

It’s up to you which method you use, but be sure to compare exactly the same coverage limits and deductibles for every quote you compare. If you have differing limits you will not be able to determine which rate is truly the best. Slightly different coverage limits may result in large price differences. Keep in mind that more quotes helps locate the best rates.

Cut your car insurance rates with discounts

Car insurance is not cheap, but you may find discounts to help bring down the price. Certain discounts will be applied when you quote, but a few need to be asked about in order for you to get them.

  • Multi-car Discount – Insuring more than one vehicle with the same company could earn a price break for each car.
  • Safety Course Discount – Successfully completing a course in driver safety can save you 5% or more and easily recoup the cost of the course.
  • New Car Discount – Buying coverage on a new vehicle is cheaper because new vehicles have to meet stringent safety requirements.
  • Memberships – Belonging to certain professional organizations could trigger savings on car insurance on B-Series pickup coverage.
  • Seat Belts Save – Using a seat belt and requiring all passengers to wear their seat belts can save up to 15% off the personal injury premium cost.
  • Pay Upfront and Save – If paying your policy premium upfront instead of making monthly payments you could save 5% or more.
  • Employee of Federal Government – Active or retired federal employment could cut as much as 10% off on B-Series pickup coverage with a few car insurance companies.
  • Service Members Pay Less – Being deployed with a military unit can result in better rates.

Keep in mind that many deductions do not apply to the entire policy premium. Most only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as liability and collision coverage. Just because it seems like having all the discounts means you get insurance for free, companies wouldn’t make money that way. But any discount will bring down the amount you have to pay.

Car insurance companies who might offer these discounts are:

You are unique and your car insurance should be too

When it comes to choosing the best car insurance coverage, there really is no perfect coverage plan. Everyone’s needs are different.

For instance, these questions can help discover if your insurance needs may require specific advice.

  • Do I need PIP (personal injury protection) coverage in my state?
  • What is covered by UM/UIM coverage?
  • Can I make deliveries for my home business?
  • When can my company non-renew my policy?
  • Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
  • Are my friends covered when driving my 1990 Mazda B-Series Pickup?
  • Is my state a no-fault state?
  • Do all my vehicles need collision coverage?

If you can’t answer these questions but you know they apply to you then you might want to talk to an insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, complete this form.

Educate yourself about insurance coverages

Understanding the coverages of your insurance policy can help you determine the best coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. Insurance terms can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

Your UM/UIM coverage gives you protection when other motorists are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. This coverage pays for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your 1990 Mazda B-Series Pickup.

Since many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea. Most of the time these coverages are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP reimburse you for short-term medical expenses for surgery, prosthetic devices, funeral costs, X-ray expenses and dental work. They can be used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants as well as getting struck while a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states and may carry a deductible

Liability coverages

Liability insurance provides protection from damage that occurs to people or other property by causing an accident. It protects YOU against claims from other people, and doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have limits of 50/100/50 which stand for $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and property damage coverage for $50,000. Some companies may use a combined single limit or CSL which provides one coverage limit with no separate limits for injury or property damage.

Liability coverage pays for things like court costs, emergency aid, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and structural damage. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as high a limit as you can afford.

Comprehensive insurance

This coverage will pay to fix damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. A deductible will apply and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage pays for things like theft, damage from getting keyed and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Collision coverage protection

This coverage pays for damage to your B-Series Pickup caused by collision with another car or object. You first must pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision coverage pays for things such as driving through your garage door, scraping a guard rail, crashing into a ditch, backing into a parked car and sustaining damage from a pot hole. This coverage can be expensive, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from lower value vehicles. Another option is to choose a higher deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
