Are you a victim of an underperforming, overpriced car insurance policy? Believe me, there are many people just like you.

With so many options, it can be impossible to find the most cost effective provider.

It is always a good idea to compare prices before your policy renews because prices trend upward over time. Just because you found the best rates on Ram 50 pickup coverage last year other companies may now be cheaper. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about car insurance because you’re about to learn the best methods to eliminate unnecessary coverages and save money.

This information will teach you how car insurance quotes work and some tips to save money. If you currently have a car insurance policy, you will be able to cut costs considerably using this information. But consumers do need to learn how big insurance companies price insurance differently.

Compare the Market for Auto Insurance

There are multiple methods you can shop for 1992 Dodge Ram 50 Pickup auto insurance but some are more efficient than others. You can waste hours driving to local insurance agents in your area, or you can stay home and use the internet to get the quickest rates.

Many insurance companies participate in an industry program where prospective buyers submit one quote, and each participating company returns a rated price based on that information. This saves time by eliminating repetitive form submissions for each company.

To enter your information into the quoting system, click here (opens in new window).

The only drawback to getting quotes like this is buyers cannot specifically choose the providers to get pricing from. So if you want to choose from a list of companies to compare, we have assembled a list of auto insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.

However you get your quotes, be sure to compare exactly the same coverage information with each company. If you are comparing differing limits you can’t possibly decipher which rate is best. Having just a slight variation in coverages could mean much higher rates. Just remember that having more price comparisons will improve the odds of getting a better price.

Save on Dodge Ram 50 Pickup insurance

Insurance can be prohibitively expensive, but there could be available discounts to help offset the cost. A few discounts will automatically apply when you purchase, but some must be manually applied prior to receiving the credit.

  • Multiple Vehicles – Having multiple vehicles on the same auto insurance policy may reduce the rate for each vehicle.
  • Military Rewards – Having a deployed family member could mean lower rates.
  • Sign Early and Save – A few companies offer discounts for switching to them before your current policy expires. It can save you around 10%.
  • Drivers Ed for Students – Make teen driver coverage more affordable by requiring them to successfully complete driver’s ed class in high school.
  • Use Seat Belts – Drivers who require all occupants to wear their seat belts can save up to 15% off your medical payments premium.
  • Life Insurance – Select insurance companies reward you with a break if you buy life insurance.
  • Passive Restraints – Vehicles equipped with air bags and/or automatic seat belt systems can receive discounts of 20% or more.
  • Save with a New Car – Putting insurance coverage on a new car is cheaper since new cars are generally safer.
  • Good Student – Performing well in school can save 20 to 25%. This discount can apply up until you turn 25.
  • Defensive Driver – Successfully completing a course teaching defensive driving skills can save you 5% or more and easily recoup the cost of the course.

Keep in mind that most discount credits are not given to the entire cost. Some only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like physical damage coverage or medical payments. So even though they make it sound like you would end up receiving a 100% discount, companies don’t profit that way. But all discounts will bring down your premiums.

Tailor your coverage to you

When choosing the best car insurance coverage, there really is not a “best” method to buy coverage. Everyone’s needs are different so your insurance should reflect that For instance, these questions may help you determine whether your personal situation might need an agent’s assistance.

  • How much can I save by bundling my policies?
  • Can I rate high risk drivers on liability-only vehicles?
  • What is the rate difference between pleasure use and commuting?
  • I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
  • What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage?
  • How many claims can I have before being canceled?
  • Do I need PIP coverage since I have good health insurance?
  • Why am I required to buy liability insurance?
  • How high should my uninsured/underinsured coverage be in my state?
  • Do I need rental car coverage?

If you’re not sure about those questions but one or more may apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, take a second and complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies.

Insurance coverage breakdown

Understanding the coverages of insurance aids in choosing the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The coverage terms in a policy can be difficult to understand and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are the normal coverages found on the average insurance policy.

Coverage for collisions

Collision insurance pays for damage to your Ram 50 Pickup resulting from a collision with another car or object. You will need to pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision insurance covers things like sustaining damage from a pot hole, crashing into a building, colliding with a tree and hitting a mailbox. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from older vehicles. You can also bump up the deductible to bring the cost down.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered losses include injuries to you and your family and also any damage incurred to your Dodge Ram 50 Pickup.

Due to the fact that many drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP kick in for expenses like funeral costs, prosthetic devices and ambulance fees. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. They cover both the driver and occupants and also covers getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not an option in every state but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Liability car insurance

This protects you from damages or injuries you inflict on other’s property or people in an accident. This insurance protects YOU against claims from other people, and doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.

It consists of three limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. As an example, you may have liability limits of 50/100/50 which stand for $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, $100,000 for the entire accident, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which limits claims to one amount with no separate limits for injury or property damage.

Liability coverage protects against things such as repair bills for other people’s vehicles, legal defense fees, medical services and court costs. How much coverage you buy is your choice, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as high a limit as you can afford.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance coverage will pay to fix damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first must pay your deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims like vandalism, falling objects, damage from a tornado or hurricane and theft. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
