How to reduce 1995 Mazda B-Series Pickup insurance rates

Car insurance is not cheap, buy you may qualify for discounts to cut the cost considerably. A few discounts will automatically apply at quote time, but some must be asked for prior to getting the savings. If you don’t get every credit you qualify for, you are paying more than you should be.

  • Clubs and Organizations – Being a member of a civic or occupational organization is a good way to get lower rates when shopping for car insurance for B-Series pickup insurance.
  • Use Seat Belts – Using a seat belt and requiring all passengers to wear their seat belts can save up to 15% off your medical payments premium.
  • Paperwork-free – Some insurance companies give back up to $50 for buying a policy and signing up on their website.
  • Lower Rates for Military – Being on active duty in the military may qualify for rate reductions.
  • Save with a New Car – Insuring a new car can save up to 30% since new cars are generally safer.

Keep in mind that many deductions do not apply the whole policy. A few only apply to individual premiums such as medical payments or collision. So despite the fact that it appears you can get free auto insurance, companies don’t profit that way. Any amount of discount will help reduce your overall premium however.

Tailor your coverage to you

When choosing the right insurance coverage for your vehicles, there really is no “best” method to buy coverage. Everyone’s situation is unique and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. These are some specific questions might help in determining if your situation would benefit from professional advice.

  • Am I covered when driving on a suspended license?
  • Does coverage extend to Mexico or Canada?
  • What is covered by UM/UIM coverage?
  • What is no-fault insurance?
  • Is a new car covered when I drive it off the dealer lot?
  • What if I owe more than I can insure my car for?
  • When should my teen driver be added to my policy?
  • Should I buy more coverage than the required minimum liability coverage?
  • What discounts do I qualify for?
  • Am I covered when using my vehicle for business?

If you’re not sure about those questions then you might want to talk to an agent. If you don’t have a local agent, fill out this quick form or click here for a list of insurance coverage companies in your area. It’s fast, free and can provide invaluable advice.

Car insurance 101

Understanding the coverages of auto insurance can be of help when determining which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. Auto insurance terms can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy. Shown next are the normal coverages available from auto insurance companies.

Auto liability insurance – This provides protection from damage or injury you incur to people or other property by causing an accident. It protects you against other people’s claims, and does not provide coverage for your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see liability limits of 100/300/100 which means a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Alternatively, you may have a combined single limit or CSL that pays claims from the same limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability can pay for claims like loss of income, legal defense fees and bail bonds. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but consider buying higher limits if possible.

Medical expense coverage – Med pay and PIP coverage pay for bills for chiropractic care, hospital visits and funeral costs. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants in addition to if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Uninsured or underinsured coverage – Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection when the “other guys” are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered claims include hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your Mazda B-Series Pickup.

Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Most of the time these limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

Collision coverages – This coverage covers damage to your B-Series Pickup from colliding with an object or car. You first must pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.

Collision insurance covers things like driving through your garage door, crashing into a building, hitting a parking meter, backing into a parked car and sideswiping another vehicle. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. You can also choose a higher deductible to bring the cost down.

Comprehensive protection – This pays to fix your vehicle from damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive can pay for things such as a broken windshield, damage from a tornado or hurricane, falling objects and damage from getting keyed. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider dropping full coverage.
