Searching for cheaper car insurance rates for your Ford Contour? Nobody I know likes paying for car insurance, in particular when their premiums are too high.

With consumers having so many choices, it’s difficult to choose the lowest price insurer.

How to Get Car Insurance

There are several ways to compare Ford Contour car insurance quotes, but there is one way that is easier and takes less work. You could waste time talking about coverages with insurance companies in your area, or you can stay home and use online quotes to quickly compare rates.

Many companies take part in a program where insurance shoppers submit their information once, and every company returns a competitive quote based on the submitted data. This eliminates the need for repetitive form submissions for each company. To find out how much you can save on car insurance click here to start a free quote.

The one disadvantage to using this type of form is you cannot specify which providers to get pricing from. If you prefer to choose specific insurance companies to receive pricing from, we have assembled a list of car insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.

Whichever method you choose, be sure to compare apples-to-apples coverage limits for each price quote. If each company quotes mixed coverages it will be very difficult to decipher which rate is best. Quoting even small variations in coverages may result in large price differences. Just remember that getting more free quotes will enable you to find lower pricing.

Discounts are basically free money

Companies that sell car insurance do not list every available discount in a way that’s easy to find, so the following is a list of both the well known and also the lesser-known discounts you could be receiving.

  • Drivers Education – Require your teen driver to enroll in driver’s education in school.
  • Sign Online – A few companies will discount your bill up to fifty bucks simply for signing on their website.
  • Lower Rates for Military – Having a family member in the military may qualify for rate reductions.
  • Club Memberships – Participating in certain professional organizations could trigger savings when shopping for auto insurance for Contour insurance.
  • Passive Restraint Discount – Cars that have air bags may earn rate discounts of more than 20%.
  • Defensive Driving Course – Successfully completing a course teaching defensive driving skills could cut 5% off your bill if your company offers it.
  • Theft Prevention System – Vehicles equipped with anti-theft or alarm systems can help prevent theft and will save you 10% or more.

Keep in mind that some credits don’t apply to the entire cost. Some only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as liability and collision coverage. So despite the fact that it appears you can get free auto insurance, it doesn’t quite work that way.

Which insurance is the “right” coverage?

When buying coverage, there really is no perfect coverage plan. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so this has to be addressed. For instance, these questions could help you determine if your situation might need professional guidance.

  • What if I total my 1996 Ford Contour and owe more than it’s worth?
  • Do I have newly-aquired coverage?
  • Am I covered if I crash into my own garage door?
  • Why am I required to buy liability insurance?
  • Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
  • I have health insurance so do I need medical payments coverage?
  • How can I force my company to pay a claim?
  • Why do I need rental car insurance?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions but you know they apply to you, you may need to chat with a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier

Car insurance 101

Having a good grasp of a auto insurance policy aids in choosing appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring. These are typical coverage types found on most auto insurance policies.

Medical payments and PIP coverage

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage pay for short-term medical expenses for chiropractic care, rehabilitation expenses, hospital visits and nursing services. They can be utilized in addition to your health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. Coverage applies to not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants in addition to being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal Injury Protection is not available in all states and may carry a deductible

Comprehensive auto coverage

This pays for damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims like rock chips in glass, hitting a bird, theft and a tree branch falling on your vehicle. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Liability insurance

Liability insurance protects you from damages or injuries you inflict on a person or their property. This insurance protects YOU from claims by other people. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.

Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. As an example, you may have limits of 100/300/100 that means you have a limit of $100,000 per injured person, $300,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000.

Liability insurance covers things such as structural damage, repair costs for stationary objects, repair bills for other people’s vehicles, attorney fees and bail bonds. How much coverage you buy is your choice, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.

UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage

This protects you and your vehicle from other motorists when they do not carry enough liability coverage. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries as well as damage to your Ford Contour.

Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family.

Collision insurance

This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage pays for things like crashing into a building, hitting a parking meter, sustaining damage from a pot hole, rolling your car and crashing into a ditch. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Another option is to increase the deductible to bring the cost down.
