If price shopping car insurance online is new to you, you can be overwhelmed by the vast number of companies all offering big savings.

You should take the time to check car insurance prices occasionally because insurance rates are adjusted regularly by insurance companies. Just because you found the best deal on G20 coverage two years ago the chances are good that you can find a lower rate today. You can find a lot of misleading information regarding car insurance on the internet, so I’m going to show you some solid techniques on how to put money back in your pocket.

Free Quotes for Insurance

Most major insurance companies like Progressive, GEICO, Allstate and State Farm provide price estimates on their websites. The process is quite easy as you simply enter the amount of coverage you want into a form. When complete, their rating system gets your driving record and credit report and gives you a price quote.

Being able to quote online streamlines rate comparisons, but having to visit a lot of sites and type in the same information can get tiresome after awhile. But it is imperative to get many rate quotes in order to find the best price on insurance.

The better way to compare rates

A less time-consuming method to lower your rates is to use a quote form to return rates from several different companies. The form is fast, helps eliminate reptitive entry, and makes comparison shopping much more efficient. After sending the form, it is rated with multiple companies and you can pick any or none of the resulting price quotes.

If one or more price quotes are lower than your current rates, you can simply submit the application and purchase coverage. This process can be completed in a matter of minutes and could lower your rates considerably.

In order to find out how much you’re overpaying now, simply click here to open in new window and submit the form. If you have your current policy handy, we recommend you input the coverage information as close as possible to your current policy. Doing this assures you will get a rate comparison based on the exact same insurance coverage.

Which policy gives me the best coverage?

When buying adequate coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a “perfect” insurance plan. Each situation is unique.

For example, these questions might point out if your situation would benefit from an agent’s advice.

  • Should I bundle my homeowners policy with my auto?
  • Why am I required to buy high-risk coverage?
  • Does liability extend to a camper or trailer?
  • Do I need rental car coverage?
  • What if I owe more than I can insure my car for?
  • Is business property covered if stolen from my car?
  • Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
  • Can my babysitter drive my car?

If you can’t answer these questions but you think they might apply to your situation, you might consider talking to a licensed agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, simply complete this short form.

Auto insurance coverages

Having a good grasp of your policy helps when choosing appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be confusing and coverage can change by endorsement.

Collision – This covers damage to your G20 caused by collision with an object or car. You first must pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.

Collision coverage protects against things such as crashing into a ditch, hitting a mailbox and colliding with a tree. This coverage can be expensive, so you might think about dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.

Liability – Liability coverage protects you from injuries or damage you cause to people or other property that is your fault. This insurance protects YOU from legal claims by others, and does not provide coverage for your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have policy limits of 25/50/25 that translate to a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which combines the three limits into one amount without having the split limit caps.

Liability can pay for claims such as medical services, repair costs for stationary objects and court costs. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for bills for X-ray expenses, surgery and hospital visits. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to both the driver and occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP coverage is only offered in select states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Comprehensive insurance – This pays for damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first must pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims like a tree branch falling on your vehicle, theft and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage gives you protection from other motorists when they do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as damage to your 1996 Infiniti G20.

Since many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is very important. Usually these coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.
