Searching Companies

Want the cheapest auto insurance rates for your Volkswagen Golf? Are you sick and tired of scraping the payment together to insure your Volkswagen every month? You are in the same boat as the majority of other car owners.

Online insurance companies like GEICO, 21st Century and Progressive promote their brand names with catchy ads and it can be hard to see through the cute green geckos and mayhem and do the work needed to find the best deal.

You need to compare prices quite often due to the fact that insurance rates change quite often. Just because you found the best deal for Golf coverage two years ago you may be paying too much now. Starting now, ignore everything you know about auto insurance because we’re going to show you the best way to find lower rates on auto insurance.

The best way to get rate comparisons is to know auto insurance companies allow for online access to provide you with free rate quotes. To begin a comparison, all you need to do is provide details such as daily mileage, your job, your education level, and if a SR-22 is required. Your insurance information is then submitted to all major companies and you receive quotes quickly.

Do drivers who switch really save?

Companies like 21st Century, Allstate and State Farm regularly use ads on TV and radio. All the ads say the same thing that you’ll save big if you move your coverage to them. But how can every company say the same thing?

All the different companies have a certain “appetite” for the right customer that makes them money. For example, a profitable customer might be profiled as between 30 and 50, owns a home, and chooses high deductibles. A driver that hits that “sweet spot” will get very good rates and therefore will pay quite a bit less when switching companies.

Potential insureds who fall outside these standards will have to pay a more expensive rate and this can result in the driver buying from a lower-cost company. The ads say “customers who switch” but not “drivers who get quotes” save that much money. That’s why insurance companies can state the savings.

Because of the profiling, you need to get as many quotes as possible. It’s impossible to know which auto insurance company will have the lowest Volkswagen Golf insurance rates.

Discounts are basically free money

The price of auto insurance can be rather high, but you can get discounts that you may not even be aware of. Larger premium reductions will be automatically applied at the time of purchase, but some must be asked for prior to receiving the credit.

  • Early Signing – Select companies give a discount for buying a policy before your current policy expires. This can save 10% or more.
  • Good Student – Performing well in school can earn a discount of 20% or more. The discount lasts up until you turn 25.
  • 55 and Retired – Older drivers may be able to get better insurance rates for Golf coverage.
  • Safe Drivers – Drivers who don’t get into accidents can pay as much as 50% less for Golf coverage than less cautious drivers.
  • No Accidents – Good drivers with no accidents can save substantially when compared with bad drivers.
  • Military Discounts – Being on active duty in the military could be rewarded with lower premiums.
  • Resident Student – Youth drivers who live away from home without a vehicle on campus may be able to be covered for less.
  • Drivers Education – Cut your cost by having your teen driver complete a driver education course in high school.

A little note about advertised discounts, most discount credits are not given to the entire cost. Most cut the cost of specific coverages such as collision or personal injury protection. So even though they make it sound like having all the discounts means you get insurance for free, it just doesn’t work that way. Any qualifying discounts will cut the cost of coverage.

Which insurance is the “right” coverage?

When choosing the best insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is no single plan that fits everyone. Every situation is different so your insurance needs to address that. For example, these questions might help in determining whether you will benefit from professional help.

  • Are rental cars covered under my policy?
  • Does my 1997 Volkswagen Golf need full coverage?
  • How high should my medical payments coverage be?
  • Should I waive the damage coverage when renting a car?
  • What is high-risk coverage and where do I buy it?
  • What is roadside assistance coverage?
  • Does my insurance cover damage caused when ticketed for reckless driving?
  • Do I have coverage for damage caused while driving under the influence?
  • Who is covered when they drive my 1997 Volkswagen Golf?
  • How do I file an SR-22 for a DUI in my state?

If you can’t answer these questions then you might want to talk to a licensed agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, fill out this quick form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier

Educate yourself about insurance coverages

Learning about specific coverages of your policy helps when choosing appropriate coverage and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy. Shown next are the usual coverages available from insurance companies.

Collision coverage protection

This coverage covers damage to your Golf from colliding with an object or car. You will need to pay your deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision can pay for things such as hitting a mailbox, hitting a parking meter, crashing into a ditch, colliding with another moving vehicle and crashing into a building. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to bump up the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. This coverage pays for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your 1997 Volkswagen Golf.

Due to the fact that many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is very important. Usually your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

Auto liability insurance

This will cover damage that occurs to other people or property that is your fault. It protects YOU from legal claims by others, and does not provide coverage for your injuries or vehicle damage.

Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You commonly see liability limits of 100/300/100 that translate to a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Some companies may use one number which is a combined single limit which provides one coverage limit without having the split limit caps.

Liability coverage protects against things like loss of income, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and medical services. How much liability coverage do you need? That is your choice, but consider buying higher limits if possible.

Comprehensive insurance

This will pay to fix damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You need to pay your deductible first then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive coverage protects against claims such as damage from getting keyed, vandalism, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and hitting a bird. The maximum amount your insurance company will pay is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much consider removing comprehensive coverage.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance reimburse you for short-term medical expenses for hospital visits, doctor visits and funeral costs. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. Coverage applies to not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

A penny saved is a penny earned

We just covered some good ideas how to compare 1997 Volkswagen Golf insurance prices online. The key concept to understand is the more you quote, the better chance you’ll have of finding lower rates. You may even discover the best price on insurance is with a small mutual company. Some small companies can often provide lower rates in certain areas as compared to the big name companies such as Allstate, GEICO and Progressive.

Budget-conscious insurance is attainable online in addition to many insurance agents, so you should compare both in order to have the best price selection to choose from. There are still a few companies who do not provide you the ability to get quotes online and most of the time these regional insurance providers sell through independent agents.
