Looking for lower insurance coverage rates for your Acura CL? Confused by the number of insurance coverage options? Many other consumers are too. People have so many choices that it can be a lot of work to find lower rates.

Companies offer discounts so take them!

Properly insuring your vehicles can get expensive, but you can get discounts to cut the cost considerably. Certain discounts will be triggered automatically when you complete an application, but a few must be requested specifically before you get the savings.

  • Auto/Life Discount – Select insurance companies reward you with better rates if you take out life insurance.
  • Drive Safe and Save – Drivers who avoid accidents may receive a discount up to 45% less on CL insurance than their less cautious counterparts.
  • Seat Belt Usage – Drivers who require all occupants to use their safety belts could save 15% off your medical payments premium.
  • Passive Restraint Discount – Cars that have air bags or motorized seat belts can qualify for discounts up to 30%.
  • Paperwork-free – Certain companies give back up to $50 simply for signing digitally online.
  • Discount for Good Grades – Getting good grades can get you a discount of up to 25%. This discount can apply until age 25.
  • Payment Discounts – If paying your policy premium upfront instead of making monthly payments you could save 5% or more.
  • Defensive Driving Course – Successfully completing a course in driver safety could possibly earn you a 5% discount depending on where you live.
  • Drive Less and Save – Keeping the miles down on your Acura can earn lower rates on the low mileage vehicles.
  • Employee of Federal Government – Simply working for the federal government can save as much as 8% on CL insurance with certain companies.

Keep in mind that most credits do not apply to all coverage premiums. Some only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as medical payments or collision. So even though they make it sound like having all the discounts means you get insurance for free, auto insurance companies aren’t that generous. But any discount will help reduce your premiums.

Do I just need basic coverages?

When it comes to buying proper insurance coverage for your vehicles, there really is not a single plan that fits everyone. Each situation is unique.

These are some specific questions could help you determine whether your personal situation may require specific advice.

  • Am I covered when using my vehicle for business?
  • Why am I required to buy liability insurance?
  • How can I get my company to pay me more for my totalled car?
  • Should I file a claim if it’s only slightly more than my deductible?
  • At what point should I drop full coverage?
  • How many claims can I have before being canceled?
  • Do I need PIP (personal injury protection) coverage in my state?
  • What is roadside assistance coverage?
  • Should I rate my 1998 Acura CL as pleasure use or commute?
  • Do I have newly-aquired coverage?

If you can’t answer these questions but you think they might apply to your situation, then you may want to think about talking to an agent. If you don’t have a local agent, simply complete this short form.

Car insurance coverages for a 1998 Acura CL

Knowing the specifics of auto insurance can help you determine which coverages you need at the best deductibles and correct limits. Auto insurance terms can be ambiguous and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.

Collision coverage – Collision insurance will pay to fix damage to your CL resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You first must pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision insurance covers things like colliding with another moving vehicle, sideswiping another vehicle and crashing into a building. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from older vehicles. You can also choose a higher deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

Insurance for medical payments – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for short-term medical expenses for things like doctor visits, surgery and EMT expenses. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. Medical payments and PIP cover you and your occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – This will pay to fix damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers things such as damage from a tornado or hurricane, falling objects, theft and fire damage. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Liability – Liability insurance protects you from damage or injury you incur to other people or property in an accident. It protects YOU from legal claims by others, and does not provide coverage for your own vehicle damage or injuries.

It consists of three limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see limits of 25/50/25 which means a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Some companies may use one limit called combined single limit (CSL) that pays claims from the same limit without having the split limit caps.

Liability coverage pays for claims like loss of income, legal defense fees and emergency aid. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a personal decision, but consider buying higher limits if possible.

Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – This coverage provides protection from other drivers when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. It can pay for injuries to you and your family and damage to your Acura CL.

Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is very important. Normally these limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

And the best car insurance company is…

As you go through the steps to switch your coverage, do not buy less coverage just to save a little money. Too many times, an insured dropped full coverage and found out when filing a claim that a couple dollars of savings turned into a financial nightmare. Your aim should be to get the best coverage possible at an affordable rate while not skimping on critical coverages.

You just learned a lot of information how to save on 1998 Acura CL insurance. It’s most important to understand that the more price quotes you have, the higher your chance of finding lower rates. You may even find the best price on car insurance is with a small mutual company.

People leave their current company for a number of reasons such as not issuing a premium refund, delays in paying claims, high rates after DUI convictions or even an unsatisfactory settlement offer. It doesn’t matter what your reason, finding a new company is easier than you think.
