Recommended Companies for Cheap 2001 Volkswagen Passat Insurance

Searching Companies

Cutting costs on auto insurance can seem to be difficult for people who are new to shopping for insurance online. You have so many options available that it can easily become a challenge to find lower rates.

If you are paying for car insurance now, you should be able to save some money using this strategy. Pricing more affordable protection is simple if you know the tricks. But vehicle owners do need to learn how insurance companies compete online.

How to Buy Insurance Coverage Online

The are a couple different ways of comparing rates from different insurance companies. The recommended way to find the cheapest 2001 Volkswagen Passat insurance rates is to perform an online rate comparison. It is quite easy and can be accomplished in just a few minutes using one of these methods.

The single most time-saving way to get the best comparison quotes would be an industry-wide quote request form (click to open form in new window). This type of form eliminates the need for a different quote for each company you want a rate for. Just one form will get you rate comparisons from insurance coverage companies with the best prices. It’s definitely the quickest method.

A more time consuming way to compare rate quotes requires a visit to each individual company website and complete a new quote form. For example, we’ll assume you want comparison quotes from Farmers, Liberty Mutual and Allstate. To get each rate you have to visit each site to enter your coverage information, which is why the first method is quicker. For a list of links to insurance companies in your area, click here.

The least recommended method to compare rates is driving around to and from local insurance agencies. Shopping for insurance coverage online can eliminate the need for a local agent unless you want the professional guidance only provided by licensed agents. Drivers can obtain prices from the web but still have the advice of a local agent.

It’s up to you which method you use, but make absolute certain that you use apples-to-apples coverage limits and deductibles on every quote you get. If you use different liability limits it will be impossible to determine the best price for your Volkswagen Passat. Having just a slight variation in coverages could mean much higher rates. Just keep in mind that comparing a large number of companies will increase your chances of finding a better price.

Save with discounts on Volkswagen Passat insurance

Car insurance is not cheap, but there could be available discounts to help offset the cost. A few discounts will automatically apply at the time you complete a quote, but lesser-known reductions have to be manually applied before you get the savings.

  • Senior Citizens – If you qualify as a senior citizen, you can possibly qualify for reduced rates on Passat coverage.
  • One Accident Forgiven – A few companies will forgive one accident before hitting you with a surcharge if you are claim-free for a set time period.
  • No Accidents – Drivers who don’t have accidents can earn big discounts compared to bad drivers.
  • Club Memberships – Affiliation with certain professional organizations may earn a discount on your policy on Passat coverage.
  • Bundle and Save – When you have multiple policies with the same company you could get a discount of approximately 10% to 15%.
  • Multiple Cars – Buying insurance for all your vehicles with the same company qualifies for this discount.
  • Safety Course Discount – Successfully completing a course teaching defensive driving skills could save 5% or more if you qualify.
  • Seat Belts Save more than Lives – Requiring all passengers to use their safety belts can save 10% or more off your medical payments premium.

Drivers should understand that some credits don’t apply to all coverage premiums. Most only apply to the price of certain insurance coverages like liability and collision coverage. Even though it may seem like you could get a free auto insurance policy, companies wouldn’t make money that way. Any qualifying discounts will cut your overall premium however.

Tailor your coverage to you

When buying adequate coverage, there really is not a “perfect” insurance plan. Every insured’s situation is different.

For instance, these questions can help discover whether you might need an agent’s assistance.

  • Does my insurance cover a custom paint job?
  • What is an SR-22 filing?
  • Is other people’s property covered if stolen from my vehicle?
  • Can I afford to buy a different vehicle if my 2001 Volkswagen Passat is totaled?
  • Am I covered when delivering products for my home-based business?
  • Should I have a commercial auto policy?
  • Is business equipment covered while in my vehicle?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions but you know they apply to you, you might consider talking to an insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, complete this form.

Auto insurance 101

Learning about specific coverages of auto insurance aids in choosing appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be ambiguous and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.

Medical payments coverage and PIP

Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for immediate expenses for dental work, hospital visits and pain medications. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to you and your occupants in addition to if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP coverage is not universally available but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Comprehensive coverage

This will pay to fix damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first must pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers things like vandalism, hail damage, falling objects and damage from getting keyed. The maximum amount your auto insurance company will pay is the ACV or actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage

Your UM/UIM coverage gives you protection when the “other guys” either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Because many people only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Most of the time these coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.

Liability

This coverage protects you from damage that occurs to other’s property or people by causing an accident. This coverage protects you from claims by other people. It does not cover damage to your own property or vehicle.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You might see values of 25/50/25 which means $25,000 bodily injury coverage, $50,000 for the entire accident, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged property. Occasionally you may see one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit rather than limiting it on a per person basis.

Liability coverage pays for things like medical services, medical expenses and repair costs for stationary objects. How much liability should you purchase? That is a decision to put some thought into, but buy as much as you can afford.

Collision insurance

This will pay to fix damage to your Passat from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. A deductible applies then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision coverage pays for things such as scraping a guard rail, hitting a parking meter, rolling your car, colliding with a tree and sideswiping another vehicle. This coverage can be expensive, so you might think about dropping it from older vehicles. Another option is to increase the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.

Feed the piggy bank

Cheap 2001 Volkswagen Passat insurance can be sourced online and with local insurance agents, and you should compare price quotes from both to have the best chance of lowering rates. Some car insurance companies do not offer online quoting and usually these small insurance companies provide coverage only through local independent agents.

As you prepare to switch companies, never buy lower coverage limits just to save a few bucks. In too many instances, someone dropped comprehensive coverage or liability limits only to regret that the small savings ended up costing them much more. The ultimate goal is to purchase plenty of coverage at the best price.

Drivers switch companies for a variety of reasons including being labeled a high risk driver, poor customer service, lack of trust in their agent or an unsatisfactory settlement offer. Regardless of your reason for switching companies, switching companies is actually quite simple.
