Have you had enough of not being able to afford to insure your Mercedes-Benz every month? You’re in the same situation as millions of other consumers. Insurance companies such as Allstate, Progressive and GEICO all promote huge savings with advertising and it is challenging if not impossible to sift through the bull and find the best price available.

Consumers need to do rate comparisons before your policy renews because prices go up and down regularly. Just because you found the best deal on G-Class insurance a few years ago you will most likely find a better rate today. Block out anything you think you know about car insurance because we’re going to demonstrate one of the best ways to get good coverage at a lower rate.

Your Mercedes-Benz G-Class insurance rate is a complex equation

Consumers need to have an understanding of the rating factors that go into determining the price you pay for auto insurance. Understanding what impacts premium levels helps enable you to make changes that could result in lower auto insurance prices.

Listed below are a few of the “ingredients” that factor into premiums.

  • Do you have a high stress job? – Did you know your auto insurance rates can be affected by your occupation? Occupations such as real estate brokers, business owners and stock brokers have the highest rates due to high stress and long work hours. On the other hand, occupations such as farmers, students and performers get better rates on G-Class insurance.
  • Extra add-on coverages are wasting money – There are a lot of extra bells and whistles you can purchase on your G-Class policy. Insurance for roadside assistance, better glass coverage and membership fees are some examples. These may sound like a good investment when talking to your agent, but your needs may have changed so eliminate the coverages to reduce your premium.
  • Frequent auto insurance claims increase rates – If you tend to file frequent claims, you can pretty much guarantee either a policy non-renewal or much higher rates. Auto insurance companies award discounts to people who file claims infrequently. Auto insurance is intended for the large, substantial claims.
  • Males pay more for insurance – Statistics demonstrate women are more cautious behind the wheel. However, don’t assume that men are worse drivers. They both have accidents in similar percentages, but the men cause more damage and cost insurance companies more money. Men also statistically receive more costly citations such as reckless driving.
  • Protect yourself with liability coverage – The liability section of your policy is the coverage that protects you when a court rules you are at fault for personal injury or accident damage. It provides for a legal defense up to the limits shown on your policy. Liability insurance is quite affordable compared to insuring for physical damage coverage, so drivers should carry high limits.
  • Higher deductibles cost less – Physical damage coverage, commonly called comprehensive (or other-than-collision) and collision coverage, protects your Mercedes-Benz from damage. A few examples of covered claims are running into the backend of another car, vandalism, and burglary. Deductibles for physical damage are the amount of money you are willing to pay in the event of a claim. The more you have to pay, the bigger discount you will receive on G-Class insurance.

Compare Quotes for Car Insurance

Lowering your 2008 Mercedes-Benz G-Class car insurance rates is not a difficult process. All that’s required is to spend a few minutes on the computer comparing price quotes from different insurance companies. This is very easy and can be done in a couple of different ways.

The best way to find the lowest comparison rates is to use a rate comparison form (click to open form in new window). This form keeps you from doing separate forms for each company you want a rate for. One form submission gets you price quotes direct from many companies.

A slightly less efficient method to find lower rates requires visiting each individual company website to complete a price quote. For examples sake, let’s say you want to compare rates from USAA, Liberty Mutual and Allstate. To find out each rate you need to visit each site and enter your information, which is why most consumers use the first method.

The least efficient method to compare rates is to spend time driving to insurance agents’ offices. The ability to buy insurance online has reduced the need for local agents unless you want the trained guidance that only a license agent can provide. However, consumers can find lower rates online but buy from a local insurance agent and we’ll touch on that later.

It’s your choice how you get your quotes, but double check that you are using the exact same coverage information for each comparison quote. If you use higher or lower deductibles it’s not possible to determine the lowest rate for your Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

Take discounts and save

Companies don’t always advertise all their discounts very clearly, so here is a list some of the best known and the more hidden discounts you could be receiving. If you’re not getting every credit you qualify for, you’re paying more than you need to.

  • Anti-lock Brake Discount – Vehicles with anti-lock braking systems are safer to drive and qualify for as much as a 10% discount.
  • Early Signing – Some companies give discounts for buying a policy prior to your current policy expiration. This can save 10% or more.
  • Save over 55 – If you’re over the age of 55, you may qualify for a small decrease in premiums on G-Class insurance.
  • Safety Course Discount – Taking part in a course in driver safety can save you 5% or more depending on where you live.
  • Clubs and Organizations – Affiliation with a civic or occupational organization may earn a discount on insurance coverage on G-Class insurance.

Consumers should know that some credits don’t apply to all coverage premiums. Most only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like liability, collision or medical payments. So when it seems like adding up those discounts means a free policy, insurance coverage companies aren’t that generous.

Companies that may offer some of the above discounts may include but are not limited to:

Check with each company which discounts you may be entitled to. Savings might not apply in every state.

Which policy gives me the best coverage?

When it comes to choosing coverage, there isn’t really a “best” method to buy coverage. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so your insurance needs to address that. Here are some questions about coverages that could help you determine if you could use an agent’s help.

  • What are the financial responsibility laws in my state?
  • Why does it cost so much to insure a teen driver?
  • Is a blown tire covered by insurance?
  • Should I buy full coverage?
  • What is medical payments coverage?
  • Do I have any recourse if my insurance company denies a claim?
  • Is my teen driver covered when they drive my company car?
  • Do I benefit by insuring my home with the same company?

If you can’t answer these questions but you know they apply to you, you might consider talking to a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area. It is quick, free and can provide invaluable advice.

Insurance policy coverages for a Mercedes-Benz G-Class

Having a good grasp of your insurance policy can be of help when determining which coverages you need for your vehicles. The coverage terms in a policy can be difficult to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring. Shown next are typical coverage types available from insurance companies.

Liability coverage

This coverage provides protection from damage that occurs to other people or property. This coverage protects you against claims from other people, and doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.

Liability coverage has three limits: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 100/300/100 which means $100,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and $100,000 of coverage for damaged property.

Liability insurance covers things like medical services, structural damage and repair costs for stationary objects. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as high a limit as you can afford.

Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage gives you protection when other motorists are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered losses include injuries to you and your family and damage to your 2008 Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

Since a lot of drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage should not be overlooked.

Medical expense insurance

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage kick in for bills such as surgery, doctor visits and rehabilitation expenses. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers all vehicle occupants and will also cover being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Comprehensive (Other than Collision)

Comprehensive insurance coverage will pay to fix damage from a wide range of events other than collision. A deductible will apply and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive insurance covers things like damage from a tornado or hurricane, fire damage, a broken windshield and hail damage. The most a insurance company will pay at claim time is the cash value of the vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider dropping full coverage.

Auto collision coverage

This coverage will pay to fix damage to your G-Class caused by collision with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You have to pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage protects against things like colliding with another moving vehicle, crashing into a building and colliding with a tree. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Drivers also have the option to raise the deductible to bring the cost down.

More quotes. Lower rates.

We just showed you a lot of techniques to reduce 2008 Mercedes-Benz G-Class insurance prices online. It’s most important to understand that the more rate comparisons you have, the higher your chance of finding lower rates. You may even find the biggest savings come from some of the smallest insurance companies. These smaller insurers can often insure niche markets at a lower cost than their larger competitors like Progressive and GEICO.

Affordable insurance can be sourced online as well as from independent agents, and you should be comparing both to have the best rate selection. A few companies don’t offer the ability to get a quote online and usually these small, regional companies provide coverage only through local independent agents.
