Searching Companies

Searching for cheaper auto insurance rates for your Chevrolet Colorado? Locating cheaper insurance for a new or used Chevy Colorado can be a lot of work, but you can use these tips to make it easier.

There is a better way to shop for auto insurance so you’re going to learn the proper way to quote coverages for a Chevy and locate the lowest price from local insurance agents and online providers.

If you have a current auto insurance policy or are just looking to switch companies, you can learn to shop for the lowest rates while maintaining coverages. Finding the best auto insurance coverage is simple if you know the tricks. Drivers just need to understand the best way to compare rates online.

Discounts are available to cut your rates

Insurance can cost an arm and a leg, but you may find discounts to help bring down the price. A few discounts will automatically apply when you quote, but some may not be applied and must be asked for before they will apply. If you aren’t receiving every discount you qualify for, you’re just leaving money on the table.

  • Discounts for Safe Drivers – Drivers who avoid accidents may receive a discount up to 45% less for Colorado insurance than drivers with accident claims.
  • Anti-theft Discount – Vehicles with anti-theft systems prevent vehicle theft and qualify for as much as a 10% discount.
  • Accident Forgiveness – A handful of insurance companies will forgive one accident before your rates go up if you are claim-free for a particular time prior to the accident.
  • Multi-car Discount – Insuring more than one vehicle on one policy may reduce the rate for each vehicle.
  • Fewer Miles Equal More Savings – Fewer annual miles on your Chevy can earn better rates on cars that stay parked.
  • Defensive Driving Course – Completing a defensive driving course could cut 5% off your bill if you qualify.
  • Homeowners Pay Less – Owning a home can save you money because of the fact that having a home requires personal responsibility.
  • Driver’s Ed – Make teen driver coverage more affordable by requiring them to take driver’s ed class if offered at their school.
  • No Claims – Good drivers with no accidents pay much less as compared to bad drivers.
  • Braking Control Discount – Vehicles with anti-lock braking systems prevent accidents and therefore earn up to a 10% discount.

As a disclaimer on discounts, most discount credits are not given to the overall cost of the policy. Most only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like liability and collision coverage. So even though they make it sound like you would end up receiving a 100% discount, insurance companies aren’t that generous. Any amount of discount will bring down the amount you have to pay.

The method we recommend to compare rates utilizes the fact car insurance companies participate in online systems to provide you with free rate quotes. The only thing you need to do is provide the companies a bit of rating information like whether you are married, how much education you have, the type of vehicles you drive, and distance driven. That rating information is then sent to all major companies and you receive quotes with very little delay.

Everyone needs different coverages

When it comes to choosing adequate coverage for your vehicles, there isn’t really a cookie cutter policy. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs.

These are some specific questions can help discover if your situation may require specific advice.

  • Does insurance cover tools stolen from my truck?
  • Is borrowed equipment or tools covered if stolen or damaged?
  • How can I get high-risk coverage after a DUI?
  • Does my liability insurance cover pulling a trailer or camper?
  • Does insurance cover damages from a DUI accident?
  • Am I covered if I hit a deer?
  • Am I better off with higher deductibles on my 2011 Chevy Colorado?

If you’re not sure about those questions but you think they might apply to your situation, you may need to chat with a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form. It’s fast, free and may give you better protection.

Car insurance coverage specifics

Knowing the specifics of your policy helps when choosing the right coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. Car insurance terms can be difficult to understand and coverage can change by endorsement.

Comprehensive insurance – This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage protects against claims like rock chips in glass, damage from flooding and falling objects. The maximum payout a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – Med pay and PIP coverage provide coverage for short-term medical expenses for things like surgery, nursing services and dental work. They can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance plan or if you lack health insurance entirely. Medical payments and PIP cover all vehicle occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP is not available in all states and may carry a deductible

Liability auto insurance – Liability insurance can cover damage or injury you incur to other people or property in an accident. This coverage protects you against other people’s claims. It does not cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.

It consists of three limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You might see limits of 100/300/100 that means you have $100,000 bodily injury coverage, a per accident bodily injury limit of $300,000, and property damage coverage for $100,000. Occasionally you may see a combined limit that pays claims from the same limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability insurance covers claims like legal defense fees, emergency aid, medical services, structural damage and repair costs for stationary objects. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but buy as much as you can afford.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) – Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection from other motorists when they do not carry enough liability coverage. This coverage pays for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your 2011 Chevy Colorado.

Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Most of the time these limits are set the same as your liablity limits.

Collision – This coverage pays for damage to your Colorado from colliding with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision coverage pays for things like scraping a guard rail, crashing into a ditch and colliding with a tree. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. Another option is to raise the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Compare but don’t skimp

As you shop your coverage around, do not buy less coverage just to save a little money. There are too many instances where an insured dropped comprehensive coverage or liability limits only to regret at claim time that a couple dollars of savings turned into a financial nightmare. Your aim should be to purchase plenty of coverage at a price you can afford.

Cheap 2011 Chevy Colorado insurance can be found both online and with local insurance agents, and you need to comparison shop both in order to have the best chance of saving money. A few companies do not offer you the ability to get quotes online and usually these smaller companies provide coverage only through local independent agents.

We just covered a lot of ways to reduce insurance prices online. The most important thing to understand is the more companies you get rates for, the better your chances of lowering your rates. You may even discover the most savings is with the least-expected company.
