Looking for lower auto insurance rates for your GMC Savana Cargo? Finding low-cost insurance for your GMC Savana Cargo could be difficult, but you can follow the following methods and make it easy. There is a right way and a wrong way to buy auto insurance and we’ll show you the best way to compare rates on a GMC and find the lowest possible price.

Finding Insurance

Effectively comparing insurance prices is a ton of work if you aren’t aware of the most efficient way to do it. You can waste a lot of time driving to insurance agencies in your area, or you can stay home and use the internet to achieve your goal.

Most of the larger companies participate in an industry program where prospective buyers only type in their quote data once, and each participating company provides a quote based on that information. This saves time by eliminating quote forms for each company you want a rate for. To compare pricing click here (opens in new window).

One minor caviat to pricing coverage this way is you are unable to specify which carriers to get quotes from. If you wish to select from a list of companies to request quotes from, we put together a list of low cost insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.

Whichever way you use, make absolute certain that you use exactly the same coverages for each price quote. If you have higher or lower deductibles you will not be able to find the best deal for your GMC Savana Cargo.

Are you getting all your discounts?

Companies do not advertise all available discounts in an easy-to-find place, so we took the time to find both the well known and the harder-to-find discounts you could be receiving. If they aren’t giving you every credit available, you’re paying more than you need to.

  • Military Discounts – Being deployed with a military unit could be rewarded with lower premiums.
  • Low Mileage Discounts – Driving fewer miles could be rewarded with lower rates on the low mileage vehicles.
  • Claim Free – Drivers who don’t have accidents can save substantially as compared to frequent claim filers.
  • Seat Belts Save – Drivers who require all occupants to use their safety belts can save 10% or more off your PIP or medical payments premium.
  • Driver’s Ed – Require your teen driver to take driver’s ed class if it’s offered in school.
  • Pay Now and Pay Less – If you pay your entire premium ahead of time rather than paying monthly you could save 5% or more.
  • Defensive Driver – Completing a defensive driving course could possibly earn you a 5% discount depending on where you live.

As a disclaimer on discounts, some of the credits will not apply to your bottom line cost. Most only cut specific coverage prices like physical damage coverage or medical payments. So despite the fact that it appears you could get a free insurance policy, it doesn’t quite work that way.

Car insurance companies that may offer these discounts include:

Double check with all companies you are considering which discounts you may be entitled to. Some discounts might not be offered in your area.

Impacting insurance rates for a GMC Savana Cargo

Consumers need to have an understanding of the factors that go into determining insurance rates. Understanding what determines base rates empowers consumers to make smart changes that will entitle you to big savings.

  • Theft deterrents lower rates – Purchasing a vehicle with anti-theft technology or alarm system can help bring down rates. Anti-theft devices such as LoJack tracking devices, vehicle tamper alarm systems or GM’s OnStar system all aid in stopping auto theft.
  • Being married is a good thing – Getting married actually saves money on insurance. It means you’re more mature and statistics show being married results in fewer claims.
  • Never go without insurance – Driving without insurance can get your license suspended and you will pay a penalty because you let your coverage have a gap. Not only will rates go up, getting caught without coverage might get you a license revocation or jail time. You may have to prove you have insurance by filing a SR-22 with your state department of motor vehicles.
  • Drive less and save money – The more miles you rack up on your GMC in a year’s time the more you will pay for insurance. Almost all companies charge to insure your cars based on their usage. Cars that are left in the garage can get a lower rate as compared to vehicles used primarily for driving to work. Improper usage on your Savana Cargo may be wasting your money. Verify your insurance policy is rated on how each vehicle is driven, because it can save money.
  • An active claims history can cost you – Insurance companies generally give lower rates to people who do not rely on their insurance for small claims. If you are a frequent claim filer, you can pretty much guarantee either higher rates or even cancellation. Your insurance policy is designed for the large, substantial claims.

Tailor your coverage to you

When buying adequate coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a one size fits all plan. Every insured’s situation is different.

For example, these questions can help discover whether you will benefit from professional help.

  • Does my medical payments coverage pay my health insurance deductible?
  • Is other people’s property covered if stolen from my vehicle?
  • Am I better off with higher deductibles on my 2012 GMC Savana Cargo?
  • I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
  • Which is better, split liability limits or combined limits?
  • Am I covered when delivering products for my home-based business?

If you’re not sure about those questions but you think they might apply to your situation, you may need to chat with an agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form. It only takes a few minutes and can provide invaluable advice.

The fine print in car insurance ads

Consumers get pounded daily by advertisements that promise big savings by Progressive, GEICO, Allstate and State Farm. All the companies have a common claim of big savings if you move to their company.

But how can every company claim to save you money? It’s all in the numbers.

All the different companies have a preferred profile for the type of driver that makes them money. An example of a desirable insured might be profiled as over the age of 50, has no tickets, and has great credit. Any driver that hits that “sweet spot” will qualify for the lowest rates and as a result will probably save a lot of money.

Consumers who are not a match for the “perfect” profile will be quoted a higher premium and this can result in business not being written. The ads say “drivers who switch” but not “drivers who get quotes” save that much money. That is how insurance companies can confidently make those claims. This emphasizes why drivers must compare as many rates as you can. It’s not possible to predict which car insurance company will provide you with the cheapest GMC Savana Cargo insurance rates.

Specific coverage details

Learning about specific coverages of your policy can be of help when determining the right coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The terms used in a policy can be impossible to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy.

Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers – This coverage protects you and your vehicle from other motorists when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and also any damage incurred to your 2012 GMC Savana Cargo.

Due to the fact that many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their limits can quickly be used up. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is important protection for you and your family.

Collision coverage – Collision coverage will pay to fix damage to your Savana Cargo resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision insurance covers things like crashing into a ditch, colliding with a tree, backing into a parked car, scraping a guard rail and sideswiping another vehicle. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. You can also raise the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.

Liability car insurance – This will cover damage that occurs to other’s property or people. It protects YOU from legal claims by others, and does not provide coverage for damage to your own property or vehicle.

Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. As an example, you may have liability limits of 100/300/100 which means a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property.

Liability insurance covers things like funeral expenses, court costs, attorney fees, loss of income and medical services. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a decision to put some thought into, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.

Comprehensive (Other than Collision) – This coverage covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage protects against things such as fire damage, vandalism, theft, a broken windshield and rock chips in glass. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Medical expense insurance – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage provide coverage for short-term medical expenses like pain medications, surgery, dental work and X-ray expenses. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. They cover you and your occupants and also covers being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is not available in all states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Be Smart and Buy Smart

We just showed you many ideas to compare 2012 GMC Savana Cargo insurance prices online. The key thing to remember is the more providers you compare, the higher the chance of saving money. You may be surprised to find that the best price on auto insurance is with a company that doesn’t do a lot of advertising.

Insureds switch companies for any number of reasons including extreme rates for teen drivers, questionable increases in premium, not issuing a premium refund and even delays in responding to claim requests. It doesn’t matter why you want to switch finding a new company can be easy and end up saving you some money.

Discount insurance is available both online and also from your neighborhood agents, so you should compare both to have the best rate selection. A few companies may not provide the ability to get a quote online and many times these small insurance companies only sell through independent insurance agents.
