Searching Companies

Expensive car insurance can drain your savings account and force you to make sacrifices. Comparing price quotes is a great way to slash your bill and have more diposable income. Consumers have many auto insurance companies to pick from, and although it’s nice to be able to choose, too many choices makes it more difficult to find the best rates for your vehicles.

Automobile Insurance Quotes

Finding cheaper 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser insurance prices is a fairly straight forward process. Consumers just need to take time to compare rate quotes online from several insurance companies. It is quite easy and can be accomplished in a couple of different ways.

  1. The most efficient way to get quotes for comparison is a comparison rater form like this one (opens in new window). This form saves time by eliminating repetitive form entry for every insurance company. Taking the time to complete one form will return price quotes from multiple companies.
  2. A more difficult way to find lower rates is to manually visit the website for each individual company and fill out their own quote form. For instance, let’s assume you want comparison quotes from Nationwide, State Farm and Progressive. You would have to go to every website and enter your information, which is why the first method is more popular.

  3. The hardest way to compare rates is to spend your day driving to different agent offices. The internet eliminates the need for an insurance agent unless you prefer the professional advice of a local agent. You can, however, comparison shop online and get advice from an agent in your area and you’ll learn how to do that later.

It doesn’t matter which method you choose, just double check that you are using identical information for every company. If the quotes have differing limits then you won’t be able to find the best deal for your Toyota FJ Cruiser.

Do I need special coverages?

When it comes to choosing proper insurance coverage for your vehicles, there really is not a single plan that fits everyone. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so your insurance needs to address that. These are some specific questions could help you determine if you may require specific advice.

  • What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage?
  • Am I covered by my spouse’s policy after a separation?
  • Am I covered if hit by an uninsured driver?
  • Is there coverage for injuries to my pets?
  • Is a fancy paint job covered?
  • Are my friends covered when driving my car?
  • Am I insured when driving a different vehicle?

Coverages available on your car insurance policy

Having a good grasp of a car insurance policy can help you determine the right coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. Listed below are typical coverage types offered by car insurance companies.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP provide coverage for immediate expenses for things like prosthetic devices, nursing services, doctor visits and EMT expenses. They are often used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. Medical payments and PIP cover all vehicle occupants as well as getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP is not universally available and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Auto liability insurance – This will cover damages or injuries you inflict on other’s property or people that is your fault. Coverage consists of three different limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. Your policy might show liability limits of 100/300/100 that means you have a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property.

Liability insurance covers things such as repair costs for stationary objects, medical services and structural damage. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but you should buy as large an amount as possible.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) – This protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered losses include hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Since many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is very important.

Collision coverages – This coverage covers damage to your FJ Cruiser resulting from a collision with an object or car. You have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.

Collision coverage protects against claims like hitting a parking meter, crashing into a building, colliding with a tree and hitting a mailbox. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. Drivers also have the option to raise the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Comprehensive insurance – This coverage will pay to fix damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first must pay your deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive coverage pays for claims like rock chips in glass, hitting a deer, damage from a tornado or hurricane and damage from getting keyed. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider dropping full coverage.
