Cut prices on 2014 Volkswagen Golf insurance

The price of auto insurance can be rather high, but there could be available discounts to reduce the price significantly. Certain discounts will be triggered automatically when you purchase, but a few need to be manually applied before being credited. If you aren’t receiving every discount you deserve, you are throwing money away.

  • Multiple Policy Discount – If you insure your home and vehicles with the same company you will save up to 20% off your total premium.
  • Federal Employees – Employees or retirees of the government can save as much as 8% for Golf coverage with select insurance companies.
  • Drivers Education – Have your child enroll in driver’s education if it’s offered in school.
  • Service Members Pay Less – Being on active duty in the military can result in better rates.
  • Defensive Driver – Completing a course teaching defensive driving skills could possibly earn you a 5% discount if you qualify.
  • Save over 55 – If you’re over the age of 55, you may receive a discount up to 10% for Golf coverage.
  • Homeowners Pay Less – Owning a home may earn you a small savings because maintaining a house shows financial diligence.
  • Discount for Swiching Early – Some insurance companies reward drivers for switching to them before your current policy expires. The savings is around 10%.
  • Life Insurance – Select insurance companies reward you with a discount if you purchase life insurance from them.
  • Pay Now and Pay Less – If you pay your entire premium ahead of time instead of making monthly payments you could save 5% or more.

It’s important to understand that many deductions do not apply to all coverage premiums. Most only reduce individual premiums such as comp or med pay. Just because it seems like you can get free auto insurance, it doesn’t quite work that way. But all discounts will help reduce the amount you have to pay.

Insurance companies that may have these money-saving discounts include:

Tailor your coverage to you

When choosing the right insurance coverage, there really is no single plan that fits everyone. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs.

For instance, these questions may help highlight whether you would benefit from professional advice.

  • Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
  • Do I have coverage when making deliveries for my home business?
  • What is high-risk coverage and where do I buy it?
  • Should I buy only the required minimum liability coverage?
  • Do I need to file an SR-22 for a DUI in my state?
  • When does my teenage driver need to be added to my policy?
  • Does my medical payments coverage pay my health insurance deductible?
  • Which companies will insure high-risk drivers?
  • Am I insured when driving a different vehicle?
  • Do I have newly-aquired coverage?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions then you might want to talk to a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form. It only takes a few minutes and can provide invaluable advice.

Coverages available on your insurance policy

Understanding the coverages of your policy can be of help when determining the right coverages for your vehicles. The coverage terms in a policy can be impossible to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy.

Coverage for collisions

This coverage pays for damage to your Golf resulting from a collision with another car or object. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision insurance covers things like hitting a parking meter, rolling your car, backing into a parked car and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are 8 years or older. You can also increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other drivers when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. It can pay for medical payments for you and your occupants and damage to your 2014 Volkswagen Golf.

Since a lot of drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Usually the UM/UIM limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance coverage pays for damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims such as a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hitting a bird and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The maximum payout a insurance company will pay at claim time is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much consider dropping full coverage.

Liability insurance

This can cover damage or injury you incur to other people or property. Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. As an example, you may have liability limits of 50/100/50 which means $50,000 bodily injury coverage, a per accident bodily injury limit of $100,000, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Occasionally you may see a combined limit that pays claims from the same limit with no separate limits for injury or property damage.

Liability coverage protects against claims like court costs, legal defense fees, medical expenses, bail bonds and attorney fees. How much liability should you purchase? That is a decision to put some thought into, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as much as you can afford.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP kick in for short-term medical expenses such as nursing services, dental work, ambulance fees and chiropractic care. The coverages can be utilized in addition to your health insurance plan or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not available in all states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
