Searching Companies

Comparison shopping for insurance can be challenging for consumers not familiar with shopping for insurance online. There are so many options available that it can quickly become a ton of work to find lower rates.

It’s a good idea to compare rates on a regular basis because prices change frequently. Despite the fact that you may have had the lowest price for Expedition insurance a year ago the chances are good that you can find a lower rate today. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about insurance because we’re going to demonstrate the tricks you need to know to lower your rates without sacrificing coverage.

Lower rates by qualifying for discounts

Car insurance can cost a lot, but you may find discounts that you may not even be aware of. Certain discounts will be applied at quote time, but some may not be applied and must be requested specifically in order for you to get them.

  • Military Discounts – Being on active duty in the military could be rewarded with lower premiums.
  • Paperless Signup – A handful of insurance companies will discount your bill up to fifty bucks for buying your policy over the internet.
  • Low Mileage Discounts – Low mileage vehicles could qualify for better rates on cars that stay parked.
  • Drive Safe and Save – Drivers who don’t get into accidents can pay as much as 50% less for Expedition insurance than drivers with accident claims.
  • Accident Free – Claim-free drivers can save substantially as compared to frequent claim filers.
  • Resident Student – Any of your kids who live away from home and don’t have a car can be insured at a reduced rate.
  • Payment Method – If you pay your bill all at once rather than paying monthly you could save up to 5%.

It’s important to note that most discounts do not apply to the overall cost of the policy. Most only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like liability, collision or medical payments. So even though it sounds like all those discounts means the company will pay you, you’re out of luck. Any qualifying discounts will bring down your premiums.

Check with each insurance company which discounts they offer. All car insurance discounts might not be offered in every state.

Finding Auto Insurance Deals

When shopping for auto insurance there are multiple ways to compare rate quotes from auto insurance companies in your area. The recommended way to find the cheapest 2015 Ford Expedition insurance rates is to perform an online rate comparison. It is quite easy and can be accomplished in just a few minutes using one of these methods.

  1. The first (and easiest) way to get quotes would be an industry-wide quote request form like this one (opens in new window). This method saves time by eliminating repetitive form submissions for every auto insurance company. In just a few minutes this one form will get you rate comparisons from several companies. It’s the fastest way to compare.
  2. A different way to analyze rates is to take the time to go to the website for each individual company and request a quote. For instance, we’ll assume you want rates from State Farm, 21st Century and American Family. To find out each rate you need to take the time to go to each site to enter your coverage information, which is why the first method is more popular. For a handy list of car insurance company links in your area, click here.

Whichever way you use, make darn sure you compare identical coverage limits with each company. If you have different values for each quote it’s impossible to make an equal comparison. Just a small difference in coverage limits may result in large price differences. It’s important to know that getting more free quotes gives you a better chance of getting the best rates.

Car insurance is unique, just like you

When choosing the right insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a “best” method to buy coverage. Everyone’s needs are different.

For example, these questions can help discover if your insurance needs may require specific advice.

  • How do I insure my teen driver?
  • How does medical payments coverage work?
  • How much liability insurance is required?
  • Am I covered when driving in Canada or Mexico?
  • What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage?
  • Which companies will insure high-risk drivers?
  • What is PIP insurance?
  • Am I insured when driving a different vehicle?
  • Do I have coverage for damage caused while driving under the influence?
  • Am I covered if I break a side mirror?

If it’s difficult to answer those questions, you may need to chat with a licensed insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, simply complete this short form.

Car insurance coverage considerations

Having a good grasp of your car insurance policy helps when choosing the right coverages for your vehicles. Policy terminology can be difficult to understand and coverage can change by endorsement.

UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage gives you protection when the “other guys” either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Since many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. So UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Usually these coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.

Liability

This provides protection from damage that occurs to a person or their property. It protects you against other people’s claims. It does not cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have liability limits of 100/300/100 that translate to $100,000 bodily injury coverage, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Alternatively, you may have a combined single limit or CSL which provides one coverage limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability coverage protects against things like medical services, emergency aid, attorney fees and legal defense fees. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as much as you can afford.

Auto collision coverage

Collision insurance covers damage to your Expedition resulting from colliding with an object or car. You have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision insurance covers claims like crashing into a building, driving through your garage door, scraping a guard rail and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. You can also raise the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Medical payments and PIP coverage

Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP provide coverage for immediate expenses like hospital visits, surgery, EMT expenses and prosthetic devices. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. They cover all vehicle occupants and also covers getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP is not universally available and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Comprehensive auto coverage

Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first must pay your deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive coverage protects against things such as damage from flooding, theft and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The maximum amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider dropping full coverage.

Shop smart and save

Insureds leave their current company for any number of reasons including lack of trust in their agent, delays in paying claims, policy cancellation and even being labeled a high risk driver. It doesn’t matter what your reason, choosing a new company is easier than you think.

Affordable 2015 Ford Expedition insurance is attainable on the web and with local insurance agents, so compare prices from both to have the best chance of lowering rates. Some companies do not offer the ability to get a quote online and these smaller companies work with independent agents.

When shopping online for insurance coverage, it’s not a good idea to skimp on coverage in order to save money. There have been many cases where drivers have reduced uninsured motorist or liability limits only to regret at claim time that the savings was not a smart move. The aim is to buy a smart amount of coverage for the lowest price, not the least amount of coverage.
