Searching Companies

If you have insurance now or are just looking to switch companies, you can use this information to cut your premiums while maintaining coverages. This article will instruct you on the best way to quote coverages and some tricks to saving. Drivers only need to know how to compare company rates on the web.

Auto Insurance Quote Comparison

There are a lot of ways you can shop for auto insurance but one way is less labor-intensive and much quicker. You can spend your afternoon discussing policy coverages with agents in your area, or you could save time and use online quoting to maximize your effort.

Most of the best insurance companies belong to a marketplace where prospective buyers submit their information once, and each company provides a quote for coverage. This eliminates the need for quotation requests to each company.

To fill out one form to compare multiple rates now click here (opens in new window).

The one disadvantage to comparing rates this way is you don’t know exactly the insurers to receive prices from. If you would rather choose from a list of companies to compare prices, we have a listing of low cost auto insurance companies in your area. Click here for list of insurance companies.

Whichever way you use, be sure to compare identical coverage limits and deductibles on every quote you get. If each company quotes different limits and deductibles on each one it will be next to impossible to determine the best price for your Lincoln MKS.

Discounts are basically free money

Insuring your vehicles can cost a lot, but you can get discounts to help offset the cost. Certain discounts will be triggered automatically when you purchase, but less common discounts must be manually applied in order for you to get them. If they aren’t giving you every credit available, you are throwing money away.

  • Payment Method – By paying your policy upfront instead of making monthly payments you may reduce your total bill.
  • Braking Control Discount – Cars that have steering control and anti-lock brakes can avoid accidents and earn discounts up to 10%.
  • One Accident Forgiven – A handful of insurance companies allow you one accident before hitting you with a surcharge if your claims history is clear for a set time period.
  • Discount for Good Grades – Getting good grades can save 20 to 25%. Earning this discount can benefit you well after school through age 25.
  • Multiple Policy Discount – If you insure your home and vehicles with one company you will save at least 10% off all policies.
  • Safety Course Discount – Completing a course teaching defensive driving skills could possibly earn you a 5% discount and easily recoup the cost of the course.
  • Drive Less and Save – Driving fewer miles can earn lower rates on the low mileage vehicles.
  • Multiple Cars – Buying insurance for all your vehicles on one policy can get a discount on all vehicles.
  • Senior Discount – If you’re over the age of 55, you can possibly qualify for better auto insurance rates on MKS coverage.

A little note about advertised discounts, some credits don’t apply to all coverage premiums. Some only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as medical payments or collision. Just because it seems like adding up those discounts means a free policy, companies don’t profit that way. Any qualifying discounts will bring down the amount you have to pay.

A partial list of companies who might offer these benefits may include but are not limited to:

Double check with each company which discounts you may be entitled to. Some discounts may not be available in your area.

Which insurance is the “right” coverage?

When buying adequate coverage, there really is no single plan that fits everyone. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s.

Here are some questions about coverages that can aid in determining if your situation could use an agent’s help.

  • Does coverage extend to Mexico or Canada?
  • Can I afford to buy a different vehicle if my 2015 Lincoln MKS is totaled?
  • Will my insurance pay for OEM parts?
  • Do I need roadside assistance coverage?
  • Is my ex-spouse still covered by my policy?
  • Are rental cars covered under my policy?
  • Are split liability limits better than a combined single limit?
  • Does insurance cover tools stolen from my truck?
  • Does my liability insurance cover pulling a trailer or camper?
  • Should I carry comprehensive and collision coverage?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions, then you may want to think about talking to a licensed insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form. It is quick, free and may give you better protection.

Insurance policy specifics

Understanding the coverages of your insurance policy helps when choosing which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. The coverage terms in a policy can be difficult to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring.

Auto collision coverage

This pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and then insurance will cover the remainder.

Collision can pay for things like driving through your garage door, colliding with another moving vehicle and hitting a parking meter. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to increase the deductible to bring the cost down.

Medical expense coverage

Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP kick in for short-term medical expenses like chiropractic care, funeral costs, doctor visits and surgery. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance program or if there is no health insurance coverage. They cover all vehicle occupants in addition to getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Uninsured or underinsured coverage

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage gives you protection when the “other guys” either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Because many people only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea. Usually these coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.

Comprehensive protection

This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You first must pay your deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive coverage protects against claims like damage from flooding, damage from getting keyed, hitting a bird, falling objects and rock chips in glass. The maximum amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider dropping full coverage.

This coverage will cover damages or injuries you inflict on people or other property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU from claims by other people. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show values of 100/300/100 that means you have a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and $100,000 of coverage for damaged property. Another option is one number which is a combined single limit which limits claims to one amount rather than limiting it on a per person basis.

Liability insurance covers things such as pain and suffering, funeral expenses, court costs, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and emergency aid. How much coverage you buy is your choice, but you should buy as large an amount as possible.
