Searching Companies

Trying to find the cheapest auto insurance rates for your Jeep Cherokee? Are you burned out from robbing Peter to pay Paul each month for auto insurance? You’re in the same situation as millions of other drivers.

Drivers have many car insurance companies to insure vehicles with, and even though it’s nice to have a choice, lots of choices makes it harder to find the lowest rates.

Discounts can really help save money

Buying auto insurance is not cheap, but you may qualify for discounts that may help make it more affordable. Some discounts apply automatically when you get a quote, but lesser-known reductions have to be requested specifically in order for you to get them.

  • Air Bags and Passive Restraints – Vehicles with factory air bags can receive discounts of 20% or more.
  • Accident Forgiveness Coverage – This one isn’t a discount, but companies like GEICO, Progressive, and Allstate will forgive one accident before your rates go up with the catch being you have to be claim-free for a set time period.
  • Safety Course Discount – Taking a course teaching driver safety skills could possibly earn you a 5% discount and also improve your driving technique.
  • Discounts for Government Workers – Having worked for a branch of the government may reduce rates when you quote auto insurance for Cherokee coverage with some auto insurance companies.
  • Discount for Good Grades – Getting good grades can earn a discount of 20% or more. This discount can apply until age 25.
  • Policy Bundle Discount – When you have multiple policies and place coverage with the same company you could save up to 20% and get you cheaper auto insurance.
  • Discount for Life Insurance – Not every insurance company offers life insurance, but if they do you may earn a discount if you purchase some life insurance in addition to your auto policy.

Drivers should understand that most discounts do not apply to the whole policy. Most only reduce the cost of specific coverages such as comprehensive or collision. So even though it sounds like it’s possible to get free car insurance, you’re out of luck. But all discounts will positively reduce the premium cost.

Compare auto insurance rate quotes online

The are a couple different ways of comparing price quotes from companies that offer auto insurance in your state. The best way to find the lowest 2020 Jeep Cherokee rates is simply to get online rate quotes. This can be accomplished in a couple minutes as outlined below.

  1. The first (and easiest) way to get the best comparison quotes would be an industry-wide quote request form. This method keeps you from doing multiple quote forms for every auto insurance company. Taking the time to complete one form gets coverage cost estimates from multiple companies.
  2. A slightly less efficient method to analyze rates is going to the website of each company to complete a price quote. For sake of this example, let’s assume you want to view quotes from Farmers, 21st Century and GMAC. To find out each rate you need to navigate to each company’s site and repeatedly type in your coverage information, which explains why we recommend starting with the first method.

You can choose any of those ways to find more affodable coverage, but do your best to enter equivalent coverage limits for each quote you get. If each company quotes differing limits you can’t possibly get a fair rate comparison. Just slight variations in limits may result in a large different in cost. And when quoting auto insurance, remember that quoting more helps improve the odds of finding better pricing.

Will just any policy work for me?

When buying the right insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there is no single plan that fits everyone. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s and your policy should reflect that. For example, these questions could help you determine if you might need an agent’s assistance.

  • Does my policy cover my teen driver if they drive my company car?
  • Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
  • Does medical payments coverage apply to all occupants?
  • Do I really need UM/UIM coverage?
  • Is rental equipment covered for theft or damage?
  • Can I pay claims out-of-pocket if I buy high deductibles?
  • Can I afford low physical damage deductibles?

If you can’t answer these questions but a few of them apply then you might want to talk to an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, take a second and enter your zip code.

But the ad said I’d save 15% in 15 minutes!

Insurance coverage companies such as Progressive, GEICO, Allstate and State Farm regularly use ads on television and other media. They all seem to make the same claim about how much you will save just by moving your insurance coverage coverage to their company. How is it possible that every company can offer you a better deal? It’s all in the wording.

All companies have specific characteristics for the driver that will generate a profit. An example of a profitable customer could possibly be between 25 and 40, has no driving citations, and drives a car with an anti-theft system. Someone that matches those criteria will probably get cheap rates and have a good chance to save money with a new company.

Potential customers who don’t qualify for this ideal profile may be forced to pay higher prices and the customer buying from someone else. Company advertisements say “customers that switch” not “everyone that quotes” save that kind of money. That is how companies can truthfully make the claims of big savings. Because of these techniques, drivers must compare many company’s prices. Because you never know the company that will fit you best based on your risk profile.

Educate yourself about auto insurance coverages

Learning about specific coverages of a auto insurance policy can be of help when determining appropriate coverage for your vehicles. Auto insurance terms can be difficult to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy. These are the usual coverages found on the average auto insurance policy.

Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive can pay for things like vandalism, damage from getting keyed, theft and falling objects. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider dropping full coverage.

Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – This protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. This coverage pays for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your Jeep Cherokee.

Due to the fact that many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is very important.

Collision – Collision coverage pays for damage to your Cherokee resulting from a collision with another car or object. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage pays for things like backing into a parked car, driving through your garage door, crashing into a ditch, scraping a guard rail and crashing into a building. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider dropping it from older vehicles. You can also increase the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Liability coverage – This coverage provides protection from damage or injury you incur to a person or their property by causing an accident. This coverage protects you from legal claims by others. Liability doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.

Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You might see liability limits of 100/300/100 which means a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, $300,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000.

Liability insurance covers claims like loss of income, medical services, bail bonds and legal defense fees. How much coverage you buy is up to you, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as much as you can afford.

Insurance for medical payments – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage kick in for expenses like ambulance fees, EMT expenses and X-ray expenses. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance plan or if there is no health insurance coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP coverage is only offered in select states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

A fool and his money are soon parted

As you restructure your insurance plan, you should never skimp on critical coverages to save a buck or two. There are many occasions where consumers will sacrifice uninsured motorist or liability limits only to regret at claim time that their decision to reduce coverage ended up costing them more. The goal is to buy a smart amount of coverage at the best cost, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.

Some insurance companies may not provide online quoting and these regional insurance providers prefer to sell through independent agents. Low-cost 2020 Jeep Cherokee insurance can be purchased online in addition to local insurance agencies, and you should be comparing both to have the best selection.
