Finding cheaper auto insurance by quoting online is simple to do, plus you can save money. The critical component is to get as many rate quotes as possible so you can compare the lowest prices.

Finding the best direct price on auto insurance can be difficult if you have never used online quoting. But don't let that discourage you because it's actually quite easy. There are several ways to get quotes from different insurance companies. The simplest method to find the lowest Hyundai Santa-Fe insurance cost is to perform an online rate comparison. Car insurance premiums for a Hyundai Santa-Fe can fluctuate considerably subject to many criteria. Including but not limited to:

  • More performance equals higher cost
  • Accidents raise premiums
  • Home/auto policy bundles save money
  • Use of your vehicle
  • Add-on coverages such as rental reimbursement
  • Your occupation
  • The level of coverage
  • Home ownership saves money

An additional factor which can affect Hyundai Santa-Fe insurance rates is the year of the vehicle. Models that are a few years old have a lower value than newer models so repair costs tend to be lower which can decrease annual premiums. Conversely, more recent Santa-Fe vehicles may have safety features such as all-wheel drive, a rollover prevention system, and adaptive headlights which may provide discounts that lower premiums.

How does the size and class of the Hyundai Santa Fe affect liability rates?

How insurers calculate liability rates is important to understand, as every driver legally needs liability insurance. By shopping around and choosing a low-risk vehicle, you may see a significant drop in liability rates. What does liability insurance cover?

This important coverage protects you if you cause an accident. It will pay for both the other driver’s property damage bills, such as car repairs, as well as any medical bills the other driver may have.

Because of this, you may notice that you have higher rates if your vehicle is larger and heavier, or if your car is crash-prone. These types of vehicles have a higher risk of people filing liability claims.

The Hyundai Santa Fe is an SUV, which is sturdier and does more damage to other cars, but it is only mid-size, which lessens its risk of major liability claims. The only way to be sure a vehicle is low-risk, however, is to take a look at its insurance losses.

A great resource to check the losses on your vehicle is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) data on insurance losses by make and model.

Since there are multiple different variations of the Hyundai Santa Fe, we pulled losses for all of them to get a better understanding of the model overall. The first set of losses are for property damage.

  • Hyundai Santa Fe four-door: -1 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe four-door and 4WD: -3 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe sport four-door: -3 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe sport four-door and 4WD: -5 percent (average)

Even though all the losses are average, they are all in the negative, which is great. The losses for bodily injury losses are also good.

  • Hyundai Santa Fe four-door: -3 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe four-door and 4WD: -12 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe sport four-door: -3 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe sport four-door and 4WD: -3 percent (average)

These losses suggest that liability insurance will be reasonable for the Hyundai Santa Fe, as they are all average. If your costs aren’t average (and you have a clean driving record), you should start looking for a new provider.

What does liability insurance cost for the Hyundai Santa Fe?

To give you a better estimate of what you’ll be paying for liability insurance, we went ahead and got sample rates from Geico. These rates are calculated from a 40-year-old male driver who lives in Pennsylvania, has a clean driving record, owns his 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe, and travels 13,000 miles a year.

The first set of rates below is for bodily injury liability (for a six-month policy).

  • Low ($15,000/$30,000): $32.12
  • Medium ($100,000/$200,000): $65.85
  • High ($500,000/$500,000): $106.01

These price increases are fairly normal, and your coverage limit will increase significantly with upgrades. We do recommend getting medium or high coverage, as hospital bills are expensive. The last thing you want is to be sued because you can’t pay for all of the other driver’s hospital bills.

  • Low ($5,000): $420.41
  • Medium ($20,000): $445.35
  • High ($100,000): $463.58

It only costs $43 to upgrade from low to high coverage. This amounts to only $7 a month. At a price this low, it makes sense to get as much protection as possible. A higher limit means less worry after an accident, as you won’t have to pay out of pocket (unless the car you wreck is a custom-made Lamborghini).

What are the safety features and ratings of the Hyundai Santa Fe?

What is the cheapest SUV to insure? Generally, SUVs that have numerous safety features and good crash ratings will be cheaper to insure, as you can get a discount.

The base model of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe has some decent safety features, which is good news. AutoBlog listed the following safety features for the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe.

  • Crash prevention: anti-lock brakes and stability control.
  • Crash protection: front-impact airbags, side-impact airbags, overhead airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners.
  • Anti-theft: vehicle intrusion alarm.

In addition to safety features, the vehicle crash rating of your Hyundai Santa Fe is also important. Hyundai Santa Fe reviews on safety help insurers determine if a car is risky to drive.

The IIHS’s crashworthiness tests on the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe showed great results. Tests on small overlap front (driver and passenger sides) crashes, moderate overlap front crashes, side crashes, roof strength, and head restraints/seats were all rated as good (the highest rating possible). The video below shows an example of one of the IIHS’s tests.

Because of the Hyundai Santa Fe’s crash test results, the IIHS awarded it with the IIHS’s 2020 Top Safety Pick award. As well, since the Hyundai Santa Fe is an SUV, it has better fatality rates than cars. The IIHS’s 2018 data showed the following results for driver fatalities per million vehicles:

  • SUVs: 23 fatalities
  • Pickups: 34 fatalities
  • Cars: 48 fatalities

SUVs have the lowest number of fatalities for drivers, as well as the lowest number of fatalities for all occupants per million vehicles (below).

  • SUVs: 32 fatalities
  • Pickups: 42 fatalities
  • Cars: 69 fatalities

SUVs are usually safer in a crash than cars and pickups, as SUVs are sturdier. The list of fatalities below shows total SUV fatalities broken up by crash type.

  • Frontal Impact: 2,784 fatalities
  • Side Impact: 930 fatalities
  • Rear Impact: 286 fatalities
  • Other (mostly rollovers): 1,035 fatalities

The total number of SUV fatalities (5,035) is fewer than car fatalities (13,138), although slightly more than pickup fatalities (4,369). Overall, however, SUVs have a low number of fatalities, which means you are safer in an SUV and will likely have lower rates for medical car insurance coverage.

What is the MSRP of the Hyundai Santa Fe?

Insurers use the manufacturer suggested retail price to determine how much repairs or replacement will cost them if you wreck your Hyundai Santa Fe. The MSRP is a fixed price, so it’s more stable than the invoice price (the price the seller uses) or the fair purchase price (the price you should be paying).

Curious what you should be paying for a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe? We took a look at Kelley Blue Book’s (KBB) prices to find out the MSRP, invoice price, and fair purchase price.

  • MSRP: $28,945
  • Invoice: $27,830
  • Fair Purchase Price: $27,497
  • Fair Market Range: $26,542 to $28,451

The MSRP is more than the invoice price and fair purchase price, which is normal. It’s important to shop around when you are looking for a new car, as it could save you a few thousand dollars (which can then be put towards car insurance).

In addition to the MSRP, the losses of your vehicle’s collision and comprehensive insurance will affect your rates. Both of these coverages pay for your car repairs, regardless of who caused the accident. Collision covers accidents with other vehicles or objects, while comprehensive covers accidents with animals, natural disasters, weather, vandalism, and theft.

If you lease your vehicle, your lender may force you to carry these two coverages. Make sure that you buy through a regular provider and not through your lender, as lenders will be more expensive.

So what are the losses of collision and comprehensive coverages? Let’s start with the IIHS’s data on collision losses.

  • Hyundai Santa Fe four-door: -8 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe four-door and 4WD: -3 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe sport four-door: -9 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe sport four-door and 4WD: -4 percent (average)

Insurers are well aware of what the best and worst vehicles for overall collision losses are, so it’s important that your vehicle has good losses. The Hyundai Santa Fe’s collision losses are decent, so you should have a normal rate. The losses for comprehensive coverage are also good.

  • Hyundai Santa Fe four-door: -13 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe four-door and 4WD: -3 percent (average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe sport four-door: -20 percent (better than average)
  • Hyundai Santa Fe sport four-door and 4WD: -8 percent (average)

You may actually have a slightly cheaper rate for a sport, four-door Hyundai Santa Fe, as its loss is better than average. However, even if you don’t have this version, you should still have a decent rate.

How much will it cost to repair my Hyundai Santa Fe?

Every vehicle owner should take some time to research repair costs. If you aren’t prepared for yearly maintenance costs, your budget could suffer. Luckily, RepairPal’s reliability rating of the Hyundai Santa Fe is promising.

The Hyundai Santa Fe has a four out of five reliability rating and costs an average of $515 to repair annually (this includes maintenance costs like oil changes). This yearly maintenance fee is cheaper than the average annual repair costs for mid-size SUVs, which is $573.

Curious how much accident repairs will cost? We used InstantEstimator’s free tool to get level two damage repair costs for a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe.

  • Front bumper: $413
  • Rear bumper: $423
  • Hood: $387
  • Roof: $471
  • Front door: $391
  • Rear door: $379
  • Fender: $351
  • Quarter panel: $363

The roof is the most expensive part to repair on the Hyundai Santa Fe, but it is still under $500. This isn’t bad, and the Hyundai Santa Fe’s repair costs are all fairly average. This is good news, as it means you should have an average car insurance rate.
