What are daytime running lights?

You may also see this referred to as LED daytime running lights. Many new cars come with daytime running lights by default but if you’ve driven a car without them, inevitably you’ve been driving at dusk or an overcast day and forgotten to turn on your lights. Especially in these low light conditions, this simple oversight can be the difference between life or death for interactions between vehicles and pedestrians.

DRLs are not meant to take the place of headlights. They are not meant to completely illuminate the road ahead and there are no DRLs on the back of the vehicle. In the first wave of DRLs, the system would automatically use the lower power setting on already existing lights, but not many manufacturers are using LED lights and use DRLs as an opportunity to brand their vehicles while on the road.

In some instances, you may be able to disable the DRLs in your vehicle but we don’t recommend this.
