Feel like you’re a prisoner to an underperforming, overpriced auto insurance policy? Believe me, there are many people just like you.

Because there are so many insurance companies to choose from, it can be impossible to pick the most cost effective insurer.

Discounts to lower 2007 Chevy Uplander insurance rates

Insuring your vehicles can cost a lot, but you can get discounts that you may not even be aware of. A few discounts will automatically apply when you get a quote, but some must be requested specifically prior to getting the savings.

  • One Accident Forgiven – Certain companies will allow you to have one accident before raising your premiums if your claims history is clear prior to the accident.
  • Low Mileage – Low mileage vehicles can qualify you for better rates on cars that stay parked.
  • Federal Government Employee – Being employed by or retired from a federal job could cut as much as 10% off for Uplander coverage with a few car insurance companies.
  • New Vehicle Savings – Adding a new car to your policy can cost up to 25% less since new cars are generally safer.
  • Use Seat Belts – Drivers who require all occupants to buckle their seat belts can save 10% or more off the personal injury premium cost.
  • Sign Online – Some insurance companies will give a small break simply for signing over the internet.

As a disclaimer on discounts, some of the credits will not apply to the entire policy premium. Most only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as liability and collision coverage. So even though they make it sound like all those discounts means the company will pay you, you’re out of luck. Any qualifying discounts will reduce the amount you have to pay.

Low Cost Auto Insurance

Effectively comparing auto insurance prices can be challenging if you don’t understand the best way to get rate quotes. You can waste hours talking to insurance agencies in your area, or you can stay home and use the internet to achieve your goal.

Most car insurance companies participate in an industry program where prospective buyers submit one quote, and every company returns a rated price based on the submitted data. This system prevents you from having to do quote requests to each company.

To compare pricing click here (opens in new window).

One minor caviat to doing it this way is you don’t know exactly which providers to get quotes from. If you prefer to choose from a list of companies to receive pricing from, we have a listing of companies who write auto insurance in your area. View list of insurance companies.

Which method you use is up to you, but double check that you are using exactly the same quote information with each company. If you are comparing different deductibles you can’t possibly determine which rate is truly the best. Slightly different limits can result in a big premium difference. And when comparison shopping, comparing more company’s prices provides better odds of finding a lower rate.

Complexity of Chevy Uplander insurance rates

Smart consumers have a good feel for some of the elements that play a part in calculating your auto insurance rates. Knowing what influences your rates enables informed choices that will entitle you to big savings.

  • Where you live is a factor – Residing in a small town can save you money when buying auto insurance. Drivers who live in large cities tend to have traffic congestion and much longer commute distances. Fewer drivers means a lower chance of having an accident and also fewer theft and vandalism claims.
  • Rate your vehicle for proper use – The more you drive each year the more you will pay for auto insurance. Almost all companies price each vehicle’s coverage based upon how you use the vehicle. Autos used primarily for pleasure use can get a lower rate as compared to vehicles used primarily for driving to work. Improper usage on your Uplander may be wasting your money. Double check that your auto insurance policy properly reflects the correct driver usage, because it can save money.
  • Better credit scores mean better rates – A driver’s credit history is a important factor in calculating your auto insurance rates. If your credit is not that good, you could save money insuring your 2007 Chevrolet Uplander by improving your credit score. Consumers who have high credit scores tend to be less risk to insure than drivers with lower credit scores.
  • Your auto insurance rates can be influenced by your job – Jobs such as judges, architects and dentists tend to pay the highest average rates attributed to job stress and lengthy work days. Other professions such as actors, historians and the unemployed have the lowest average rates for Uplander coverage.

Tailor your coverage to you

When buying the best insurance coverage coverage, there isn’t really a “best” method to buy coverage. Everyone’s situation is a little different so your insurance should reflect that Here are some questions about coverages that can aid in determining if your situation will benefit from professional help.

  • Can I still get insurance after a DUI?
  • Am I covered when pulling a rental trailer?
  • What is the minimum liability in my state?
  • Is my cargo covered for damage or theft?
  • I have health insurance so do I need medical payments coverage?
  • Am I covered if I drive in a foreign country?
  • Do I benefit by insuring my home with the same company?
  • Am I covered when driving someone else’s vehicle?
  • What is the rate difference between pleasure use and commuting?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, fill out this quick form or go to this page to view a list of companies.

Misconceptions in auto insurance advertisements

Auto insurance providers like Allstate, GEICO and Progressive continually stream television and radio advertisements. They all say the same thing that you can save after switching your coverage to them. How do they all make almost identical claims?

All the different companies have a preferred profile for the right customer that is profitable for them. An example of a preferred risk could be over the age of 40, has no tickets, and chooses high deductibles. A propective insured who matches those parameters is entitled to the best price and therefore will save when switching.

Consumers who don’t measure up to these standards will be quoted a more expensive rate which usually ends up with business going elsewhere. The ads state “customers that switch” not “people who quote” save that much. That is how insurance companies can make those claims.

This emphasizes why you absolutely need to get as many comparisons as possible. It’s impossible to know which insurance companies will give you the biggest savings on Chevy Uplander insurance.

The coverage is in the details

Learning about specific coverages of your policy helps when choosing appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. Car insurance terms can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. Below you’ll find the usual coverages found on most car insurance policies.

Comprehensive coverage

This coverage covers damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims such as a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hitting a bird, vandalism and damage from getting keyed. The highest amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Collision coverage

Collision coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You will need to pay your deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage pays for things such as colliding with a tree, scraping a guard rail, damaging your car on a curb, colliding with another moving vehicle and crashing into a building. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. Another option is to bump up the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Medical payments coverage and PIP

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage provide coverage for expenses such as pain medications, funeral costs, doctor visits, dental work and chiropractic care. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance program or if you do not have health coverage. It covers all vehicle occupants in addition to being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is not an option in every state but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage

Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when other motorists are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. It can pay for medical payments for you and your occupants and damage to your Chevy Uplander.

Due to the fact that many drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. So UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

Liability coverage

Liability insurance can cover damage that occurs to a person or their property. It protects YOU against other people’s claims, and doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have limits of 50/100/50 which means $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $100,000, and property damage coverage for $50,000. Some companies may use a combined limit which provides one coverage limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability coverage protects against things like court costs, pain and suffering and medical expenses. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as high a limit as you can afford.

Be a Smart Shopper

We just covered quite a bit of information on how to save on 2007 Chevy Uplander insurance. It’s most important to understand that the more times you quote, the better chance you’ll have of finding lower rates. Drivers may discover the most savings is with a company that doesn’t do a lot of advertising. Some small companies may have significantly lower rates on certain market segments than the large multi-state companies such as GEICO and State Farm.

When buying insurance coverage, never reduce coverage to reduce premium. There are too many instances where someone dropped full coverage and found out when filing a claim that the few dollars in savings costed them thousands. The ultimate goal is to get the best coverage possible at a price you can afford, not the least amount of coverage.
