Searching for low-cost auto insurance on the web may be intimidating for beginners to buying insurance online. With so many online companies available, how can anyone even start to compare them all to find the cheapest available price?

Finding affordable coverage is not that difficult. If you have car insurance now, you stand a good chance to be able to lower your premiums substantially using this information. But car owners need to have an understanding of the way companies price insurance differently and apply this information to your search.

How to Get Cheap Auto Insurance

There are several ways to shop for Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class auto insurance, and some are more efficient than others. You could spend the better part of a day driving to agents in your area, or you can utilize the web to get prices fast.

Many of the larger companies are enrolled in a marketplace that enables customers to enter their coverage request one time, and every company returns a rated price. This saves time by eliminating form submissions to each company.

The only downside to comparing rates this way is buyers cannot specifically choose the companies you want pricing from. So if you prefer to choose specific insurance companies to compare rates, we have a page of auto insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.

It’s your choice how you get your quotes, but ensure you are comparing apples-to-apples coverages with every price quote. If you enter different deductibles it will be next to impossible to truly determine the lowest rate. Just a small difference in limits could mean much higher rates. And when price shopping your coverage, more quotes gives you a better chance of getting a lower rate.

Which insurance is the “right” coverage?

When buying adequate coverage, there really is not a “perfect” insurance plan. Everyone’s situation is a little different.

Here are some questions about coverages that can help discover whether your personal situation would benefit from an agent’s advice.

  • Does coverage extend to a rental car in a foreign country?
  • Am I covered when driving on a suspended license?
  • Do I need medical payments coverage since I have good health insurance?
  • Do I need replacement cost coverage on my 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class?
  • Do I pay less for low miles?
  • Am I covered when renting a car or should I buy coverage from the car rental agency?
  • What if I total my 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class and owe more than it’s worth?
  • Do I get a pro-rated refund if I cancel my policy early?
  • Should I buy only the required minimum liability coverage?
  • Will I be non-renewed for getting a DUI or other conviction?

If you’re not sure about those questions, then you may want to think about talking to an agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, complete this form.

Insurance coverages 101

Knowing the specifics of your policy aids in choosing the best coverages for your vehicles. Policy terminology can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring.

Liability coverages

Liability insurance will cover damage that occurs to a person or their property. This coverage protects you against claims from other people. Liability doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.

Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. Your policy might show limits of 25/50/25 that means you have a limit of $25,000 per injured person, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000.

Liability coverage pays for things like attorney fees, structural damage, loss of income and legal defense fees. How much liability should you purchase? That is a decision to put some thought into, but you should buy as large an amount as possible.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance covers damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive can pay for things such as fire damage, a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hitting a deer and hitting a bird. The highest amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider removing comprehensive coverage.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Med pay and PIP coverage pay for immediate expenses such as hospital visits, dental work, EMT expenses and nursing services. They can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is not universally available and may carry a deductible

Collision protection

Collision coverage will pay to fix damage to your CLK-Class resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. A deductible applies and then insurance will cover the remainder.

Collision insurance covers claims like crashing into a ditch, hitting a parking meter and sideswiping another vehicle. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from lower value vehicles. You can also increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

This gives you protection from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. It can pay for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Due to the fact that many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is important protection for you and your family.
