Finding better insurance prices for a Nissan Versa Note can turn out to be a lot of work, but you can use these tips to find lower rates.

There is a better way to find insurance online and we’ll show you the quickest way to get price quotes for a Nissan and get the lowest price from local insurance agents and online providers.

Lower rate quotes by taking advantage of discounts

Car insurance can cost a lot, but you might already qualify for some discounts that could help you make your next renewal payment. Some discounts apply automatically when you complete an application, but less common discounts must be requested specifically in order for you to get them.

  • Good Driver Discounts – Drivers who avoid accidents can pay as much as 50% less for Versa Note coverage than drivers with accident claims.
  • Fewer Miles Equal More Savings – Driving fewer miles may allow you to get slightly better rates than normal.
  • Telematics Discount – People who choose to allow their insurance coverage company to study their driving habits by using a telematic data system such as Progressive’s Snapshot and State Farm’s In-Drive may get a rate reduction if they show good driving skills.
  • Multiple Vehicles – Buying coverage for multiple cars with the same company can reduce the rates for all insured vehicles.
  • Driver Education Discount – Reduce the cost of insurance for teen drivers by having them complete a driver education course as it can save substantially.
  • Sign Online – Some companies provide a small discount for completing your application on their website.
  • Renewal Discounts – A few insurance coverage companies allow discounts for switching policies prior to your current policy expiration. This discount can save up to 10%.
  • Student Discounts – Excelling in school may save you up to 25%. You can use this discount normally up until you turn 25.
  • Use Seat Belts – Buckling up and requiring all passengers to buckle up before driving could cut 10% or more on the medical payments or PIP coverage costs.

As a footnote on discounts, most discount credits are not given to the entire cost. Some only reduce individual premiums such as collision or personal injury protection. Just because it seems like all those discounts means the company will pay you, companies don’t profit that way.

Compare free car insurance quotes

Finding a better price on car insurance isn’t really that difficult. You just have to take a couple of minutes comparing rates to see which company has affordable insurance coverage quotes. Comparing prices online can be done in several different ways.

  1. The fastest and easiest way to get quotes is an all-inclusive rate comparison click to view form in new window. This method keeps you from doing multiple quote forms for every prospective company. One form submission will get you price quotes from many national carriers. Just one form and you’re done.
  2. A less efficient way to find lower rates requires you to visit the website of each company and repeat the quote process again and again. For example, let’s say you want to compare rates from GEICO, 21st Century and Allstate. To find out each rate you need to take the time to go to each site and enter your information, and that explains why we recommend the first method. To view a list of companies in your area, click here.

It’s up to you which method you use, but be certain you are entering nearly identical coverages and limits for every company. If you compare different deductibles you can’t possibly truly determine the lowest rate.

Informed consumers can save money

Many different elements are used when pricing auto insurance. Most are fairly basic like a motor vehicle report, although some other factors are less obvious such as whether you are married or how financially stable you are.

  • Raising deductibles lowers premiums – Insurance for physical damage to your car, aka comp and collision, is used to repair damage to your vehicle. Some examples of covered claims would be a dented fender, hitting a deer, and damage from a fallen tree branch. Deductibles for physical damage state the amount of money you are required to spend if the claim is covered. The higher the amount you are required to pay out-of-pocket, the lower your rates will be for Versa Note coverage.
  • Employer stress can make you pay more – Occupations such as lawyerspolice officers and dentists generally have the highest average rates because of intense work requirements and lots of time spent at work. Other careers such as scientists, engineers and performers have lower than average premiums for Versa Note coverage.
  • Safer the car lower the rate – Cars with five star safety ratings cost less to insure. Safe vehicles reduce injuries and lower injury rates means less claims paid and thus lower rates. If the Nissan Versa Note scored at minimum four stars on Safercar.gov you may be receiving a better rate.
  • Liability protection is important – Liability insurance will afford coverage if you are determined to be liable for causing personal injury or damage in an accident. This coverage provides you with a defense in court which can cost thousands of dollars. Carrying liability coverage is mandatory and cheap as compared to coverage for physical damage, so insureds should have plenty of protection for their assets.
  • Do you qualify for a multi-policy discount? – Most major insurers apply a discount to insureds that have more than one policy. It’s known as a multi-policy discount. Even with this discount applied, consumers should still get quotes from other companies to help guarantee you have the best rates.
  • Too many claims drive up insurance rates – If you tend to file frequent claims, you can look forward to increased rates or even have your policy non-renewed. Auto insurance companies award the best rates to insureds who do not rely on their insurance for small claims. Your car insurance is meant to be used in the event of the large, substantial claims.
  • Youthful drivers are expensive to insure – Teenage drivers have a tendency to be careless and easily distracted when driving with friends therefore insurance rates are much higher. Older drivers are viewed as being more responsible, are lower risk to insure and get fewer tickets.

How much insurance coverage do I need?

When it comes to choosing adequate coverage, there isn’t really a “best” method to buy coverage. Every insured’s situation is different.

Here are some questions about coverages that could help you determine if your situation might need professional guidance.

  • Is my teenager covered with friends in the car?
  • Am I covered if I wreck a rental car?
  • Is my babysitter covered when using my vehicle?
  • Is a fancy paint job covered?
  • Is my state a no-fault state?
  • I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
  • Should I carry comprehensive and collision coverage?

If you can’t answer these questions but you know they apply to you then you might want to talk to an agent. If you don’t have a local agent, fill out this quick form. It is quick, free and can provide invaluable advice.

The coverage is in the details

Learning about specific coverages of your insurance policy helps when choosing the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. Policy terminology can be confusing and nobody wants to actually read their policy.

UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage – This protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea. Normally your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages do not exceed the liability coverage limits.

Medical payments and PIP coverage – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance kick in for expenses for prosthetic devices, nursing services and rehabilitation expenses. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. Medical payments and PIP cover you and your occupants and also covers being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is not available in all states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Auto liability – Liability insurance provides protection from injuries or damage you cause to other people or property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU against claims from other people, and does not provide coverage for damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.

Coverage consists of three different limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. Your policy might show limits of 100/300/100 that translate to a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a per accident bodily injury limit of $300,000, and property damage coverage for $100,000. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which limits claims to one amount with no separate limits for injury or property damage.

Liability insurance covers things like pain and suffering, attorney fees and structural damage. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a decision to put some thought into, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.

Collision – This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from colliding with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision can pay for things like crashing into a building, sideswiping another vehicle, damaging your car on a curb, hitting a parking meter and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. You can also raise the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Comprehensive auto coverage – This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You need to pay your deductible first then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage protects against things such as hitting a bird, falling objects, hitting a deer, rock chips in glass and a broken windshield. The most your insurance company will pay is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider removing comprehensive coverage.

Summing up your auto insurance search

As you shop your coverage around, it’s not a good idea to reduce coverage to reduce premium. There have been many cases where someone dropped comprehensive coverage or liability limits only to regret at claim time that a couple dollars of savings turned into a financial nightmare. The aim is to find the BEST coverage at the best price, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.

Drivers leave their current company for a variety of reasons including high rates after DUI convictions, not issuing a premium refund, poor customer service or delays in paying claims. Whatever your reason, choosing a new company is easier than you think.

Lower-priced auto insurance can be purchased on the web in addition to local insurance agencies, so get free insurance coverage quotes from both of them in order to have the best price selection to choose from. Some insurance companies do not offer online price quotes and many times these smaller companies prefer to sell through independent agencies.
