Searching for cheaper auto insurance rates for your GMC Envoy XL? No one in their right mind looks forward to paying for auto insurance, especially when they are paying too much.

Consumers have many insurers to choose from, and even though it’s nice to be able to choose, lots of choices makes it harder to compare rates.

How to Get Insurance

There are several ways of comparing rates from insurance companies in your area. One of the best ways to find the cheapest 2005 GMC Envoy XL insurance rates is to use the internet to compare rates. This can be done in a couple of different ways.

The first (and easiest) way to find the lowest comparison rates would be an industry-wide quote request form click to view form in new window. This method keeps you from doing a different quote for each company you want a rate for. Taking the time to complete one form will return quotes from many national carriers.

A harder way to get quotes online is to take the time to go to the website for every company you want to comare and fill out their own quote form. For examples sake, let’s assume you want comparison quotes from GEICO, Progressive and Allstate. To get rate quotes you would need to go to every website to enter your coverage information, which is why most consumers use the first method. The most time-consuming way to compare rates is to waste gas driving to and from local insurance agencies. Shopping for insurance online eliminates the need for an insurance agent unless you require the personal advice of a local agent. You can, however, price shop online and still use a local agent.

Which method you use is up to you, but be sure to compare exactly the same coverage limits on every quote you get. If you enter different deductibles you will not be able to make a fair comparison for your GMC Envoy XL. Quoting even small variations in coverages may cause a big price difference. Just keep in mind that getting more free quotes provides better odds of finding a better price.

When should I use an insurance agent?

When choosing adequate coverage for your vehicles, there really is no single plan that fits everyone. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so this has to be addressed. These are some specific questions might point out whether you will benefit from professional help.

  • Is borrowed equipment or tools covered if stolen or damaged?
  • Do I need higher collision deductibles?
  • Which is better, split liability limits or combined limits?
  • How can I find cheaper teen driver insurance?
  • Does coverage extend to my business vehicle?
  • How much liability coverage do I need in my state?
  • Is my nanny covered when driving my vehicle?
  • Can I afford to pay high deductible claims out of pocket?

If you can’t answer these questions, you might consider talking to a licensed agent. If you don’t have a local agent, complete this form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier

Auto insurance coverages 101

Learning about specific coverages of auto insurance can help you determine which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. Auto insurance terms can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. Listed below are the usual coverages found on most auto insurance policies.

UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage gives you protection from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Since many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Usually these coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.

Medical payments and PIP coverage

Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance reimburse you for immediate expenses for things like X-ray expenses, EMT expenses, dental work, surgery and rehabilitation expenses. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover all vehicle occupants and also covers any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not universally available but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Coverage for liability

This protects you from damages or injuries you inflict on other’s property or people that is your fault. This coverage protects you against claims from other people, and doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.

Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. Your policy might show liability limits of 25/50/25 which stand for $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Occasionally you may see one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which limits claims to one amount with no separate limits for injury or property damage.

Liability coverage protects against things such as medical services, pain and suffering, structural damage, repair costs for stationary objects and attorney fees. How much liability should you purchase? That is a decision to put some thought into, but you should buy as high a limit as you can afford.

Collision protection

This coverage pays for damage to your Envoy XL caused by collision with another car or object. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage pays for claims like scraping a guard rail, crashing into a building and sideswiping another vehicle. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider dropping it from older vehicles. Another option is to increase the deductible to bring the cost down.

Comprehensive auto coverage

Comprehensive insurance coverage pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive coverage pays for things like hitting a bird, fire damage, theft and damage from flooding. The maximum payout your auto insurance company will pay is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider dropping full coverage.
