Searching Companies

Did you fall for a flashy sales pitch and buy an overpriced car insurance policy? Believe me when I say you are not the only one feeling buyer’s remorse.

Numerous insurers battle for your business, so it can be very hard to choose a company and get the best coverage at the lowest rate

You should take the time to get comparison quotes once or twice a year since rates are adjusted regularly by insurance companies. If you had the best rates for xB coverage last year there is a good chance you can find better rates now. So just forget anything you know (or think you know) about car insurance because you’re about to learn how to use online quotes to find lower rates on car insurance.

If you currently have a car insurance policy, you should be able to reduce your rates substantially using these techniques. Finding the best rates is quite easy. But car owners should learn how the larger insurance companies determine prices and take advantage of how the system works.

How to save on 2009 Scion xB insurance

The price of auto insurance can be rather high, buy you may qualify for discounts to help offset the cost. Some trigger automatically when you complete an application, but a few must be asked for in order for you to get them.

  • Passive Restraint Discount – Factory air bags and/or automatic seat belt systems can qualify for discounts up to 30%.
  • Drivers Education – Require your teen driver to successfully complete driver’s ed class if it’s offered in school.
  • Life Insurance – Select insurance companies reward you with lower rates if you buy a life insurance policy as well.
  • Discounts for Safe Drivers – Safe drivers can pay as much as 50% less for xB coverage than drivers with accidents.
  • Use Seat Belts – Requiring all passengers to wear their seat belts could cut 10% or more on the medical payments or PIP coverage costs.
  • Pay Upfront and Save – If you pay your bill all at once rather than paying monthly you may reduce your total bill.

Consumers should know that most of the big mark downs will not be given to the entire cost. A few only apply to individual premiums such as comp or med pay. Just because you may think all the discounts add up to a free policy, you’re out of luck. Any qualifying discounts will help reduce your overall premium however.

Tailor your coverage to you

When it comes to buying proper insurance coverage, there really is no perfect coverage plan. Everyone’s needs are different and your policy should reflect that. Here are some questions about coverages that may help you determine if your situation would benefit from an agent’s advice.

  • Is extra glass coverage worth it?
  • Am I covered if I wreck a rental car?
  • How can I get high-risk coverage after a DUI?
  • Should I buy more coverage than the required minimum liability coverage?
  • Can I make deliveries for my home business?
  • Why is insurance for a teen driver so high?
  • What is the rate difference between pleasure use and commuting?
  • Is my dog or cat covered if injured in an accident?
  • What is PIP insurance?
  • Am I covered when driving a rental car?

If you can’t answer these questions but you think they might apply to your situation, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies.

Auto insurance coverage information

Knowing the specifics of insurance can be of help when determining appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. Insurance terms can be ambiguous and reading a policy is terribly boring. These are typical coverages found on the average insurance policy.

Liability coverage

Liability insurance will cover injuries or damage you cause to a person or their property. Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You commonly see limits of 100/300/100 that translate to a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000. Some companies may use one number which is a combined single limit which combines the three limits into one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability can pay for claims such as medical services, funeral expenses and court costs. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a decision to put some thought into, but consider buying as large an amount as possible.

Comprehensive (Other than Collision)

Comprehensive insurance pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You need to pay your deductible first and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage pays for claims like hitting a bird, hail damage and falling objects. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers

Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. It can pay for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Most of the time these limits are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.

Auto collision coverage

This coverage will pay to fix damage to your xB resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision insurance covers claims such as scraping a guard rail, hitting a parking meter, colliding with a tree and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. You can also increase the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.

Medical expense insurance

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage reimburse you for bills for things like chiropractic care, EMT expenses, rehabilitation expenses, doctor visits and surgery. The coverages can be used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if you do not have health coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover you and your occupants and also covers being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal injury protection coverage is only offered in select states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Best coverage at the best price

In this article, we covered a lot of techniques to compare 2009 Scion xB insurance prices online. It’s most important to understand that the more companies you get rates for, the better chance you’ll have of finding lower rates. Consumers could even find that the biggest savings come from a small local company. They can often provide lower rates in certain areas than their larger competitors like Progressive and GEICO.

Discount insurance can be bought on the web and also from your neighborhood agents, and you should be comparing both to have the best rate selection. There are still a few companies who may not provide the ability to get a quote online and most of the time these regional insurance providers sell through independent agents.
