Tired of wondering where the money will come from each month for insurance coverage? You are no different than many other vehicle owners.

There are many insurers to purchase coverage from, and although it’s a good thing to be able to choose, it can be more challenging to find the lowest cost provider.

How to lower your auto insurance cost

To get low cost insurance quotes, there a variety of ways of comparing rate quotes from all the different companies. The easiest way by far to compare 2017 Acura RDX insurance prices is to perform an online rate comparison. This can be accomplished in a couple minutes as outlined below.

  1. The first (and easiest) way to find low rates would be an industry-wide quote request form. This quick form keeps you from doing separate quotes for every company. Taking the time to complete one form gets you coverage quotes from all major companies.
  2. Another way to find lower rates is going to each individual company website and get a separate price quote. For example, we’ll assume you want comparison quotes from GEICO, Liberty Mutual and Progressive. In order to get each rate, you would have to go to every website to enter your coverage information, which can get rather old.

Which method you use is up to you, but do your best to use the same deductibles and coverage limits for every company. If you are comparing different values for each quote you will not be able to determine which company has the best rates. Slightly different limits may result in a large different in cost. It’s important to know that getting more free quotes increases your odds of finding lower pricing.

These six discounts can lower insurance coverage rates

The price of auto insurance can be rather high, but you can get discounts to cut the cost considerably. Certain reductions will be credited when you complete an application, but a few need to be requested specifically before you get the savings.

  • Sign Early and Save – Some companies give discounts for buying a new policy before your current policy expires. You could save around 10% when you buy insurance online.
  • Payment Method – If you can afford to pay the entire bill rather than spreading payments over time you can actually save on your bill.
  • Passenger Safety Discount – Vehicles equipped with air bags or motorized seat belts may get savings of up to 25% or more.
  • New Car Discount – Buying insurance coverage coverage on a new vehicle can cost up to 25% less because new vehicles keep occupants safer.
  • Employee of Federal Government – Active or former government employment could cut as much as 10% off for RDX coverage with a few insurance coverage companies.
  • Defensive Driver Discount – Completing a course teaching defensive driving skills can save you 5% or more if you qualify.

A little note about advertised discounts, most discount credits are not given to the whole policy. Most only cut specific coverage prices like medical payments or collision. So when it seems like adding up those discounts means a free policy, that’s just not realistic.

A few of the larger companies and their possible discounts are:

  • Progressive has savings for online quote discount, continuous coverage, good student, homeowner, and multi-vehicle.
  • MetLife policyholders can earn discounts including good student, accident-free, good driver, multi-policy, defensive driver, and claim-free.
  • Mercury Insurance offers discounts for multi-car, good driver, professional/association, annual mileage, and ease of repair.
  • Nationwide offers discounts including multi-policy, anti-theft, family plan, good student, and easy pay.
  • GEICO includes discounts for multi-policy, air bags, emergency military deployment, daytime running lights, seat belt use, and defensive driver.
  • AAA may offer discounts for education and occupation, anti-theft, good driver, pay-in-full, and good student.

When getting free insurance quotes, it’s a good idea to each insurance company which discounts you qualify for. Discounts may not apply in your area. To see insurers who offer discounts, enter your zip code here.

When do I need an agent’s advice?

When it comes to choosing coverage, there isn’t really a best way to insure your cars. Every insured’s situation is different so your insurance needs to address that. For instance, these questions can aid in determining if your insurance needs will benefit from professional help.

  • What if I total my 2017 Acura RDX and owe more than it’s worth?
  • How high should deductibles be on a 2017 Acura RDX?
  • Does my policy pay for OEM or aftermarket parts?
  • Is extra glass coverage worth it?
  • Should I have combined single limit or split liability limits?
  • Is a fancy paint job covered?
  • Does my policy cover me when driving someone else’s vehicle?
  • Do I really need UM/UIM coverage?
  • Why do I only qualify for high-risk insurance?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions but you know they apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, simply complete your zip code.

Parts of your insurance policy

Having a good grasp of your insurance policy aids in choosing the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. Policy terminology can be confusing and nobody wants to actually read their policy. These are the usual coverages found on most insurance policies.

Coverage for collisions

This coverage will pay to fix damage to your RDX from colliding with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision can pay for things like backing into a parked car, crashing into a ditch, hitting a mailbox and sustaining damage from a pot hole. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so you might think about dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. You can also bump up the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

UM/UIM Coverage

This coverage protects you and your vehicle from other motorists when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is very important. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.

Liability auto insurance

Liability coverage will cover injuries or damage you cause to other people or property in an accident. Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see policy limits of 50/100/50 which means $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and $50,000 of coverage for damaged property. Occasionally you may see a combined single limit or CSL that pays claims from the same limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability coverage protects against things such as court costs, repair costs for stationary objects and loss of income. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but you should buy as large an amount as possible.

Comprehensive or Other Than Collision

This pays to fix your vehicle from damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first must pay your deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive can pay for claims such as damage from getting keyed, theft, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and vandalism. The maximum amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Medical costs insurance

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage reimburse you for expenses like surgery, nursing services and dental work. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers all vehicle occupants in addition to getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP coverage is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Quote more, save more

Budget-friendly car insurance can be found both online and from local insurance agents, and you should be comparing both to have the best selection. There are still a few companies who do not provide rate quotes online and most of the time these small, regional companies sell through local independent agents.

We just showed you a lot of information how to shop for 2017 Acura RDX insurance online. The most important thing to understand is the more rate comparisons you have, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. You may even discover the best price on car insurance is with an unexpected company. These smaller insurers may cover specific market segments cheaper than their larger competitors like Allstate and Progressive.
