- Raising to $1,000 deductibles will save $208 annually
- The average rate for a good driver age 40 who chooses $500 deductibles is $1,524

Car insurance rates for a Dodge Ram also range considerably based on your risk profile, the trim level and model year, and physical damage deductibles and liability limits.
More mature drivers with no driving violations and high deductibles may pay as low as $1,400 every 12 months on average, or $117 per month, for full coverage. Rates are highest for teenagers, where even good drivers will be charged in the ballpark of $5,500 a year. View Rates by Age
Your home state also has a big influence on Dodge Ram insurance prices. A middle-age driver might find rates as low as $1,100 a year in states like Utah, Ohio, and New Hampshire, or at least $2,060 on average in New York, Michigan, and Florida.
|State||Premium||Compared to U.S. Avg||Percent Difference|
Opting for high physical damage deductibles can reduce rates by up to $620 annually, whereas increasing liability limits will push rates upward. Moving from a 50/100 limit to a 250/500 limit will raise rates by up to $378 extra every 12 months. View Rates by Deductible or Liability Limit
If you have a few points on your driving record or tend to cause accidents, you may be forking out anywhere from $1,800 to $2,400 extra every year, depending on your age. Insurance for high-risk drivers is expensive and can cost from 43% to 132% more than the average rate. View High Risk Driver Rates
Because rates have so much variability, the best way to find out who has the cheapest auto insurance rates is to do a rate comparison from multiple companies. Every auto insurance company utilizes a different rate formula, so rate quotes will be varied from one company to the next.

How to Find Affordable Dodge Ram Insurance
Finding cheaper rates on insurance for a Dodge Ram consists of being a safe driver, having above-average credit, not filing small claims, and avoiding coverage lapses. Set aside time to compare rates at least every other year by getting rate quotes from direct companies like GEICO, Progressive, and Esurance, and also from several local insurance agents.
Here is a brief review of the car insurance concepts covered above.
- Drivers considered higher risk with DUI or reckless driving convictions pay on average $1,740 more per year for insurance
- You may be able to save around $180 per year simply by quoting online in advance
- Increasing comprehensive and collision deductibles can save around $625 each year
- Insureds who purchase more liability insurance will pay around $460 every year to raise from a 30/60 limit to 250/500 limits
Why is my truck insurance so high? If you have a poor driving record, this could be the answer. A poor record can raise your rates an average of $1,740 more a year. To find out what else determines the price of car insurance with your Dodge Ram 1500 car insurance company, stick with us.

How does the size and class of the Dodge Ram 1500 affect liability rates?
Liability insurance is necessary to have, as most states require drivers to carry this coverage. What does liability insurance cover? It will protect you from being sued, as it pays for the other driver’s property damage and medical injury bills if you caused an accident. However, it can be a bit expensive depending on what type of vehicle you own.
Generally, larger and heavier vehicles will have higher liability rates, as they are more likely to do serious damage to other vehicles in a crash. The Dodge Ram 1500 is a large pickup, which means it could cost more to insure.
You may also wonder if a V8 costs more on insurance. V8 engines may put you more at risk of crashing, as the powerful engine can lead to speeding. However, insurers will also take liability insurance losses into consideration before they raise rates.
If a car model shows a history of poor insurance losses, you can safely assume that your insurer will charge more. To find out what the Dodge Ram 1500’s insurance losses are, we took a look at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) data on insurance losses by make and model for various variations of the Dodge Ram 100.
The first set of losses below is for bodily injury liability losses. While most of them are average, the losses for the extended cab, two-wheel-drive version of the Dodge Ram 1500 are worse than average.
- Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab SWB 2WD: 5 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab SWB 4WD: -1 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab 2WD: 22 percent (worse than average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab 4WD: 0 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 SWB 2WD: 14 percent (average)
The next set of liability losses are for property damage. Unfortunately, the losses for all versions are either worse than average or substantially worse than average.
- Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab SWB 2WD: 25 percent (worse than average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab SWB 4WD: 21 percent (worse than average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab 2WD: 43 percent (substantially worse than average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab 4WD: 23 percent (worse than average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 SWB 2WD: 32 percent (substantially worse than average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 SWB 4WD: 25 percent (worse than average)
Since the Dodge Ram 1500 has poor liability losses for property damage, you may see a slightly higher rate than average on your insurance bill.
What does liability insurance cost for the Dodge Ram 1500?
Are trucks expensive to insure? To prepare you for average truck insurance costs for the Dodge Ram 1500, we got a sample quote from Geico. Our sample was based on a 40-year-old male driver who lives in Pennsylvania, owns a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 (conventional cab), has a clean driving record, and travels 13,000 miles a year.
So what is the average pickup truck insurance cost per month? The first set of rates below shows prices for bodily injury coverage levels for a six-month policy.
- Low ($15,000/$30,000): $38.96
- Medium ($100,000/$200,000): $79.86
- High ($500,000/$500,000): $128.56
If you want to upgrade your coverage from low to high, it will cost you $90 (or $15 a month). This isn’t that high, especially because the increase in your coverage limit increases substantially.
The next set of rates is for property damage coverage levels.
- Low ($5,000): $454.49
- Medium ($20,000): $488.30
- High ($100,000): $513.00
It costs $59 on average to increase your coverage from low to high. This only amounts to $10 a month. So for $25 extra a month, you could go from low to high limits on both liability coverages.
What are the safety features and ratings of the Dodge Ram 1500?
Safety features have multiple purposes. They help prevent crashes, keep you safer in a crash, and help prevent car theft. Insurers are more likely to offer a hefty discount if you have multiple safety features that fit into these categories.
Unfortunately, the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 only has a few standard safety features listed on AutoBlog.
- Features that prevent crashes: anti-lock brakes and stability control.
- Features that protect in crashes: front-impact airbags, overhead airbags, and seatbelt pretensioners.
- Features that prevent theft: ignition disable device.
The 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 lacks side-impact airbags, knee airbags, anti-whiplash headrests, and a vehicle intrusion alarm. Because it is a little light on safety features, insurers may not offer a high discount.
Luckily, safety features aren’t the only thing insurers take into consideration. Insurers will also want to know if your vehicle has a good crash rating. According to the IIHS, the Dodge Ram 11500 crew cab and extended cab have the following crash ratings.
- Moderate overlap front: Good
- Side: Good
- Roof strength: Marginal
- Head restraints: Good
The roof strength is poorly rated, but all the other crash tests showed great results, as good is the highest rating possible. Watch the video below for an example of one of the crash tests.
The fatalities for pickups may also affect what you pay for car insurance. The IIHS’s 2018 crash data showed that per million vehicles, there were 34 pickup driver deaths, 23 SUV driver deaths, and 48 car driver deaths. Per million vehicles for all occupants, there were 42 pickup deaths, 32 SUV deaths, and 69 car deaths.
This data tells us that pickups have better fatalities than cars, although SUVs have the best rates per million vehicles. For overall crashes, however, pickups have the lowest number of fatalities. In 2018, there were 4,369 pickup fatalities, 5,035 SUV fatalities, and 13,138 car fatalities.
The total pickup fatalities can be broken up into the following crash types.
- Frontal Impact: 2,493 deaths
- Side Impact: 807 deaths
- Rear Impact: 173 deaths
- Other (mostly rollovers): 896 deaths
Frontal impacts are the most dangerous, as they have the highest number of fatalities. Making sure your pickup has good safety ratings is one of the best ways to make sure you are safe in a crash.

What is the MSRP of the Dodge Ram 1500?
Manufacturer suggested retail price is usually the price insurers use to calculate rates, as it is the price a manufacturer deems its product is worth. This price gives insurers an idea of how much to charge for collision and comprehensive insurance.
Since both of these coverages protect your own assets after an accident, cars with high MSRP will cost more to insure. Want to learn about collision and comprehensive car insurance? Watch the video below for an explanation of the importance of these coverages.
Lenders often force customers to carry these two coverages on their cars (this is known as force-placed insurance). However, car insurance through your lender is usually much more expensive than buying it through your own personal insurer. So make sure to discuss this with your lender before you sign the lease.
So what is the MSRP? We visited Kelley Blue Book (KKB) for prices on a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab to find out. Unfortunately, the Dodge Ram 1500 is so old that the KBB doesn’t have the MSRP prices. However, we can still get a good idea of prices from the list below.
- Typical Listing Price: $14,474
- Fair Purchase Price: $13,874
- Fair Market Range: $12,466 to $15,281
The typical listing price isn’t that expensive, which is good news for you. Not only does it mean you will pay less for your vehicle, but it also means you may have a lower insurance rate for collision and comprehensive insurance. The IIHS’s data on the Dodge ram 1599 for collision losses are also average or lower than average, which can help lower costs.
- Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab SWB 2WD: -16 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab SWB 4WD: -6 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab 2WD: -13 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab 4WD: -10 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 LWB 2WD: -39 percent (substantially better than average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 LWB 4WD: -39 percent (substantially better than average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 SWB 2WD: -12 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 SWB 4WD: -32 percent (substantially better than average)
As you can see below, the comprehensive losses are all average. This isn’t a bad thing, as it means your rate will be normal.
- Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab SWB 2WD: 7 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab SWB 4WD: 8 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab 2WD: 0 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab 4WD: 0 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 LWB 2WD: -3 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 SWB 2WD: 0 percent (average)
- Dodge Ram 1500 SWB 4WD: -20 percent (average)
Because the price of the Dodge Ram 1500 is low and the losses are good, you should be able to find a reasonable rate by shopping around.
What are the theft rates of the Dodge Ram 1500?
If you have a vehicle that is a frequent target of theft, you may end up with higher comprehensive car insurance rates. Why? In addition to animal collisions, weather damage, and vandalism, comprehensive coverage will also cover you if your vehicle is stolen. So if you are wondering why did your car insurance rates increase, theft could be a factor.
Unfortunately, the Dodge Ram 1500 is grouped in with Dodge Ram full-size pickups, which is on the National Insurance Crime Bureaus’ 2018 crime list of the top stolen vehicles. Placing ninth out of ten for the top ten stolen vehicles, the Dodge Ram Pickup had 11,226 stolen vehicles in 2018. The 2001 model year was stolen the most, as there were 1,155 thefts.
Since the Dodge Ram is a target of frequent theft, having anti-theft technology can help lower your risk of your truck being stolen. This will also help lower your average comprehensive car insurance costs.
How much will it cost to repair my Dodge Ram 1500?
In addition to insurance costs, car payments, and gas, you need to plan for repair costs. The Dodge Ram 1500 has decent repair costs. According to RepairPal’s reliability rating of the Dodge Ram 1500, the average annual repair costs (including oil changes) is $670. This is less than average repair costs for full-size trucks ($936).
We also used InstantEstimator’s free tool to find out average repair costs for level two damage to a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab.
- Front bumper: $389

- Hood: $411
- Roof: $459
- Front door: $403
- Back door: $391
- Fender: $363
- Quarter panel: $411
These repair costs are fairly normal. This is good, as these prices aren’t just looked at by you. Insurers also want to know how much your car will cost to repair, as they will be paying the repair bill after an accident.
