Searching Companies

Searching for the cheapest insurance rates? Consumers have a choice when looking for low-cost Volkswagen Jetta insurance. You can either spend your time struggling with agents to compare prices or use the internet to get rate quotes.

There is a better way to shop for insurance so you’re going to learn the best way to price shop coverage for a Volkswagen and find the lowest possible price from local insurance agents and online providers.

If you have a policy now or need new coverage, you can use these techniques to shop for the lowest rates and possibly find even better coverage. This information will familiarize you with the best way to quote coverages and some tips to save money. Drivers just need to know the most effective way to compare prices over the internet.

How to Get Insurance Coverage Comparison Quotes

Finding a lower price on 1998 Volkswagen Jetta insurance is actually quite simple. Drivers just need to spend a few minutes comparing rate quotes online with multiple companies. This is very easy and can be done in several different ways.

One of the best ways to compare a lot of rates at once would be an industry-wide quote request form like this one (opens in new window). This method prevents you from having to do separate quotes to each individual insurance coverage company. One form will return quotes direct from many companies. Recommended for those who want to invest the least amount of time.

A different way to get quotes online is to take the time to go to each individual company website and complete a new quote form. For instance, we’ll assume you want rates from Allstate, Liberty Mutual and American Family. To get each rate you have to spend time on each company’s site to input your insurance information, which is why the first method is more popular. It’s up to you how you get prices quotes, just double check that you are using apples-to-apples coverage limits and deductibles for every quote you compare. If your comparisons have differing limits it’s not possible to determine the best price for your Volkswagen Jetta.

Discounts to lower 1998 Volkswagen Jetta insurance rates

Insurance can cost an arm and a leg, but you can get discounts to reduce the price significantly. Certain discounts will be triggered automatically at quote time, but less common discounts must be specially asked for before being credited. If you aren’t receiving every discount you qualify for, you are throwing money away.

  • Save with a New Car – Adding a new car to your policy is cheaper because new vehicles have to meet stringent safety requirements.
  • Accident Waiver – A few companies permit an accident before hitting you with a surcharge as long as you don’t have any claims prior to the accident.
  • Accident Free – Drivers who don’t have accidents pay less compared to accident-prone drivers.
  • Save over 55 – Older drivers may qualify for better auto insurance rates for Jetta insurance.
  • Anti-lock Brake Discount – Anti-lock brake equipped vehicles can avoid accidents and qualify for as much as a 10% discount.
  • Military Discounts – Being on active duty in the military could mean lower rates.

As a disclaimer on discounts, most discount credits are not given to the entire cost. The majority will only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like medical payments or collision. Just because it seems like all the discounts add up to a free policy, it doesn’t quite work that way. Any qualifying discounts will reduce the cost of coverage.

Insurance companies that possibly offer these money-saving discounts may include but are not limited to:

It’s a good idea to ask every prospective company which discounts they offer. Savings might not be offered in your state.

Tailor your coverage to you

When it comes to buying the right insurance coverage, there isn’t really a “perfect” insurance plan. Everyone’s situation is unique.

Here are some questions about coverages that may help highlight whether your personal situation would benefit from professional advice.

  • Do I need rental car coverage?
  • Is my vehicle covered by my employer’s policy when using it for work?
  • Is my custom paint covered by insurance?
  • How much liability do I need to cover my assets?
  • Is borrowed equipment or tools covered if stolen or damaged?
  • Am I better off with higher deductibles on my 1998 Volkswagen Jetta?
  • Am I covered when renting a car or should I buy coverage from the car rental agency?
  • What happens if I owe more than my 1998 Volkswagen Jetta is worth?
  • Am I covered when using my vehicle for business?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions but a few of them apply, you may need to chat with a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form. It is quick, free and you can get the answers you need.

Volkswagen Jetta rates are in the details

It’s important that you understand the different types of things that help determine the price you pay for car insurance. Understanding what influences your rates empowers consumers to make smart changes that may reward you with big savings.

The following are some of the factors used by your company to calculate rates.

  • Women pay lower rates – The statistics show that women are safer drivers than men. However, don’t assume that women are better drivers. They both have accidents at a similar rate, but the males cause more damage and cost insurance companies more money. They also receive more costly citations like DUI and reckless driving.
  • Lower rates with optional equipment – Purchasing a vehicle with a theft deterrent system can get you a discount on your car insurance. Anti-theft features such as GM’s OnStar, tamper alarm systems and vehicle immobilizers all aid in stopping auto theft.
  • Big city or small town – Residing in a small town can be a good thing when talking about car insurance. Fewer people means fewer accidents and also fewer theft and vandalism claims. City drivers have much more traffic to deal with and a longer drive to work. More time commuting means more change of being in an accident.
  • Pleasure use saves money – The more miles you rack up on your Volkswagen each year the higher your rate. Almost all companies apply a rate based upon how you use the vehicle. Autos left parked in the garage qualify for better rates than those used for commuting. Make sure your car insurance policy properly reflects how each vehicle is driven. If your policy improperly rates your Jetta may be wasting your money.

Do auto insurance companies bend the truth?

Drivers constantly see and hear ads for cheaper car insurance from companies such as Allstate, GEICO and Progressive. All the ads say the same thing about savings after switching your policy.

How can each company say the same thing? It’s all in the numbers.

All companies have a preferred profile for the driver that makes them money. A good example of a profitable customer might be over the age of 40, has no prior claims, and drives less than 7,500 miles a year. Any driver who fits that profile will get the preferred rates and most likely will pay quite a bit less when switching companies.

Consumers who don’t qualify for the “perfect” profile will have to pay more money and ends up with the driver buying from a lower-cost company. Company advertisements say “customers who switch” not “everybody who quotes” save that much money. That is how insurance companies can state the savings.

Because of the profiling, drivers must get quotes from several different companies. You cannot predict which auto insurance company will have the lowest Volkswagen Jetta insurance rates.

Car insurance coverages and their meanings

Having a good grasp of your policy helps when choosing the right coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The coverage terms in a policy can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy.

Collision coverage protection

This coverage will pay to fix damage to your Jetta caused by collision with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You first must pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision coverage protects against things such as hitting a parking meter, colliding with a tree and hitting a mailbox. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Liability

Liability coverage protects you from injuries or damage you cause to other people or property in an accident. It protects you against claims from other people. Liability doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

It consists of three limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You might see policy limits of 50/100/50 that means you have a limit of $50,000 per injured person, $100,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property. Alternatively, you may have one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which combines the three limits into one amount with no separate limits for injury or property damage.

Liability coverage pays for claims such as attorney fees, funeral expenses, repair costs for stationary objects and medical services. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but buy as large an amount as possible.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance covers damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage protects against things like vandalism, theft and damage from flooding. The most your car insurance company will pay is the ACV or actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance pay for short-term medical expenses for dental work, hospital visits, surgery and ambulance fees. They are often used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. Coverage applies to you and your occupants in addition to any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not available in all states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

This gives you protection from other drivers when they do not carry enough liability coverage. This coverage pays for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your Volkswagen Jetta.

Due to the fact that many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Frequently these coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.

A fool and his money are soon parted

Affordable 1998 Volkswagen Jetta insurance is available both online in addition to many insurance agents, and you should compare price quotes from both so you have a total pricing picture. Some companies do not provide online price quotes and many times these small insurance companies only sell through independent insurance agents.

People switch companies for a number of reasons such as delays in responding to claim requests, not issuing a premium refund, policy cancellation or even delays in paying claims. Regardless of your reason, finding a new car insurance company can be easy and end up saving you some money.

As you prepare to switch companies, do not buy lower coverage limits just to save a few bucks. There have been many situations where drivers have reduced uninsured motorist or liability limits only to find out that their decision to reduce coverage ended up costing them more. Your goal should be to purchase plenty of coverage at a price you can afford while still protecting your assets.
