Searching Companies

Are you drained from scraping nickels together to keep your car insured? You’re in the same situation as millions of other vehicle owners. Due to the increasing number of insurance providers from which to choose, it is hard for the average consumer to pick a lower cost insurance coverage provider.

Compare car insurance quotes online

Effectively comparing car insurance prices can be a daunting task if you don’t understand the most efficient way to do it. You can waste a lot of time talking to insurance agencies in your area, or you can utilize online quoting to get rates in a matter of minutes.

Many popular insurance companies participate in an industry program where insurance shoppers complete one form, and every company can give them a price for coverage. This prevents consumers from doing quote forms to each individual car insurance company.

To submit your quote information now, enter your zip code here.

The only drawback to pricing coverage this way is you cannot specify which insurance companies to get pricing from. If you wish to select specific providers to receive pricing from, we have a listing of the cheapest car insurance companies in your area. Click to enter zip code.

Whichever way you choose to compare rates, double check that you are using exactly the same deductibles and coverage limits on every price quote you get. If you compare different deductibles then you won’t be able to make a fair rate comparison.

The ad said I’d save $449 a year!

Consumers get pounded daily by advertisements that claim the cheapest car insurance rates from the likes of State Farm, GEICO and Progressive. They all seem to have a common claim that you’ll save big after switching your coverage to them.

How can each company make almost identical claims? This is how they do it.

Insurance companies have a preferred profile for the type of customer that makes them money. For instance, a desirable risk may need to be over the age of 50, has no claims, and does not commute to work. Someone who matches that profile is entitled to the best price and is almost guaranteed to save some money.

Drivers who do not meet these standards may receive a higher rate which usually ends up with the driver buying from a lower-cost company. The trick companies use is to say “customers that switch” not “everyone who quotes” save that much. This is how insurance companies can make claims that they all have the best car insurance rates.

Different companies use different criteria so you really should do a price quote comparison at every renewal. Because you never know which company will fit your personal profile best.

Discounts for lower-cost insurance quotes

Car insurance companies don’t always publicize the entire discount list very well, so the list below details a few of the more well known and the harder-to-find discounts that you may qualify for.

  • New Vehicle Savings – Insuring a new car can get you a discount because newer vehicles are generally safer.
  • Smart Student Discounts – This discount could provide a savings of up to 20% or more. This discount can apply up to age 25.
  • Driving Data Discount – Drivers who agree to allow driving data submission to study their driving habits by using a telematic data system such as Progressive’s Snapshot could see a rate decrease if their driving habits are good.
  • Service Members Pay Less – Being on active duty in the military may qualify for rate reductions.
  • Pay Now and Pay Less – If you pay your bill all at once instead of making monthly payments you may reduce your total bill.
  • Save over 55 – Mature drivers may be able to get a discount up to 10% for Escape coverage.
  • Theft Deterent – Anti-theft and alarm system equipped vehicles are less likely to be stolen so companies will give you a small discount.
  • Seat Belt Usage – Requiring all passengers to wear their seat belts may be able to save a few bucks on the premium charged for medical payments and/or PIP.
  • Discounts for Government Workers – Being employed by or retired from a federal job could qualify for a slight premium decrease for Escape coverage depending on your company.

Please keep in mind that most discount credits are not given to the whole policy. Some only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like comprehensive or collision. So when it seems like adding up those discounts means a free policy, it just doesn’t work that way. Any qualifying discounts will help reduce your policy premiums.

A few of the larger companies and their possible discounts are detailed below.

  • Progressive offers discounts for continuous coverage, online signing, online quote discount, multi-vehicle, good student, multi-policy, and homeowner.
  • GEICO policyholders can earn discounts including daytime running lights, anti-lock brakes, driver training, defensive driver, membership and employees, emergency military deployment, and anti-theft.
  • State Farm may include discounts for defensive driving training, anti-theft, safe vehicle, student away at school, and Steer Clear safe driver discount.
  • Esurance may offer discounts for multi-policy, paid-in-full, Switch & Save, defensive driver, good student, emergency road assistance, and DriveSense.
  • The Hartford has discounts for anti-theft, air bag, defensive driver, vehicle fuel type, bundle, driver training, and good student.

If you want low cost insurance coverage quotes, ask each insurance company which discounts you may be entitled to. Some of the discounts discussed earlier may not apply to policies in every state. To find insurers with discount insurance rates, enter your zip code here.

You may need specialized car insurance coverage

When it comes to choosing the right insurance coverage for your vehicles, there is no perfect coverage plan. Everyone’s needs are different so your insurance needs to address that. These are some specific questions might help in determining if your situation would benefit from an agent’s advice.

  • Does medical payments coverage apply to all occupants?
  • Do I need special endorsements for business use of my vehicle?
  • How high should deductibles be on a 2019 Ford Escape?
  • How much can I save by bundling my policies?
  • Can I make deliveries for my home business?
  • Do I need PIP coverage since I have good health insurance?
  • I have good health insurance, so how much medical payments coverage do I need?
  • Why am I be forced to buy a membership to get insurance from some companies?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with an agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, take a second and enter your zip code. It is quick, free and can provide invaluable advice.

Auto insurance 101

Learning about specific coverages of car insurance can help you determine the best coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring. Shown next are typical coverage types found on most car insurance policies.

Collision insurance

This pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by collision with another car or object. You first must pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision can pay for things such as hitting a mailbox, rolling your car, colliding with a tree, crashing into a building and scraping a guard rail. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. You can also raise the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

Medical payments and PIP coverage

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage pay for bills for things like doctor visits, hospital visits, pain medications, X-ray expenses and EMT expenses. They can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. They cover you and your occupants and will also cover getting struck while a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Liability coverage

This coverage can cover injuries or damage you cause to other people or property in an accident. It protects you against claims from other people. It does not cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show limits of 25/50/25 that means you have a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $50,000, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) that pays claims from the same limit rather than limiting it on a per person basis.

Liability coverage pays for claims like legal defense fees, repair costs for stationary objects, medical expenses, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and loss of income. How much liability should you purchase? That is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.

Comprehensive auto coverage

Comprehensive insurance pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first must pay your deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive coverage pays for claims such as damage from a tornado or hurricane, fire damage and falling objects. The highest amount a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much consider removing comprehensive coverage.

UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage gives you protection from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Normally these coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.

Saving money makes a lot of cents

There are still a few companies who don’t offer rates over the internet and usually these small insurance companies only sell coverage through local independent agents. Cost effective 2019 Ford Escape insurance can be found both online and from local insurance agents, so you need to compare both to have the best rate selection.

We just presented a lot of ways to shop for 2019 Ford Escape insurance online. The key thing to remember is the more quotes you get, the better your comparison will be. You may even find the biggest savings come from a small local company. Some small companies can often insure niche markets at a lower cost than the large multi-state companies such as Progressive or GEICO.

As you prepare to switch companies, you should never skimp on critical coverages to save a buck or two. Too many times, an insured dropped liability limits or collision coverage and learned later that they should have had better coverage. Your aim should be to get the best coverage possible at the best possible price, but do not sacrifice coverage to save money.
